Who to choose?

Post by badass »

I'm unsure as to which characters to choose. I'm at the copper coronet and i'm unsure as to who i should choose between Amonen, Nalia and Korgan. I'm thinking Nalia and Korgan because Anomen is a cleric and i already have Jaheria.

What's the general verdict.

also, is there a time limit to get to De'naise as Nalia says to get there quickly.

If you take Nalia into your party, I believe she'll start complaining about going to her keep (not sure, as I haven't had her in my party for a while). Also, Jaheira isn't a cleric; as a druid, her spells are different than a clerics and she also gains spells slower than a pure-class or dual since she's multi-classed with fighter. Personally Anomen is a little turd, as a cleric he is *dismal* (wisdom of 13 or something equally pathetic), and as a character, bleh... But that's just me. :D

Nalia is a good mage; Korgan a good fighter; note that one is good-aligned and the other evil-aligned, so you have to keep in mind alignment, not just class, when you're choosing NPCs for your parties. But, you can always later get rid of a character if you don't like him/her.

Party-wise, pick a balanced party. It makes it more interesting, and generally easier. If you must absolutely the best of each types of class (cleric spells, mage spells, thief skills, fighter), I'd go with Viconia, Edwin, Jan, Valygar and/or Keldorn. Mind you, it's not to say they're the best characters, period, just they fit their type the best (eg. Viconia gets the most priest spells), and mixed-class characters like Aerie are pretty decent as well.

But thing is, you don't need a perfect party. You could randomly pick any five NPCs and you could still finish the game. So the only the real issue for me is how interesting the NPCs are and how affect the game. And to this end I can tell you nothing. If I told you how these characters will turn out, you wouldn't have nearly as much fun, even if some of these characters turn out to hate your or each others' guts. Part of the fun of this game is a lot of things happen on their own without you knowing it.

I vaguely remember that Nalia will leave your party for D'arneise keep if you wait too long but I'm not too sure.

Go with your instincts; take Korgan and Nalia. You can always ditch Nalia after quest if you decide she is not your type. :)

Anomen is too "holier-than-anyone" for my taste. :D

Do whatever you like, and have fun. You really can't make a wrong choice; you can only make choices that cause the game to be harder or easier in different spots. :)

Of course, Anomen is also a righteous, insufferable prig, but hey, don't let me influence you. ;)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

It really depends on what character you're playing and who you have in your party already. All combinations are possible to play, of course but some may be easier/better than others.

Anomen is one of the very best NPCs in the game, but so is Korgan. I always play with at least one Druid and one Cleric as their spells are not identical.

Its really up to you. Its best to choose a balanced party of course, but like someone said, you can pick 5 random party members and still make it. I one made a sorc, and took viconia, edwin, nalia, imoen and jan and still finished the game. Took a lot of reloads though, hard and easy at the same time. Nothing like 9 abi dalzims horrid wilting at firkraag after his magic resist is knocked down to zero :P

Some people like to form a party based on the stats and abilities of the npc's, others are more into the roleplaying aspect and take in npc's based on the personalities of the pc and npc's.

For instance, I hardly ever take Cernd or Valygar with me. They're both powerful enough but I fanaticaly dislike them.
On the other hand, I almost always take Imoen, even though there are better thieves and mages in the game, because of her ties to the npc.

I just noticed this last night. Normally dual classed fighters can only put two *s in any proficiency, but Anomen can put more. Is this something specific to his script once he attains knighthood? This makes him a rather valuable NPC in my opinion. At least it makes him more interesting than I had previously believed.

All characters dual classed from or to fighter can reach grandmastery, not only Anomen. Only fighter multi classes are limited to ++.
But I doubt you used Greater Whirlwind with Anomen, unless you gave him the ability with Shadow Keeeper. Unless multi classed characters, a dual class only gets high level abilities of its active class (Anomen->Cleric, no fighter HLAs / Imoen&Nalia->Mage, no thief HLAs)
There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.
