@Friedmad, one point: you can add a post like this to the thread you already started. Keeps another thread from moving off the first page. Just a thought. :)

You'll end up getting back into the clean air after you've completed a group of tasks involving a dragon and a city of drow.

Aerie never recovers use of her wings: sorry. Seek out the dwarves, the dragon, and the drow, in that order. (The alliteration makes it sound like an oracle. Not bad.) You'll also find a number of optional quests on that underground map that are worth doing.

Oh yeah

There's plenty to do back in Athakatla once you get back, unless you did every possible encounter back in Chapters 2 & 3 - even then, there's some fun & games with the neck biters & turning in Yoshimo's heart *sigh*, plus some smithy time before you head off to Elfville & some fun fights.

And, yes, there are some darn nice items in the Underdark.

As to the Elven city not being on your map - like so many places, it will be added in when the time is right.

PS - if you want help with the bloodsuckers, mutiple people can be enlisted to help you - I had no less than three groups of allies in Vampire clearing. Not really necessary. but sort of cool.
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

yeh, those vampy fights will be annoying for you if you play it for the first time, but you get some strategics, they're nothing but a minor nuisance imho :/

Er, you mean the wand Keys that you picked up in the very first dungeon of the game? (Irenicus' prison thing) :p

<spoil>

If they are still in "key" form I'm not sure you can use them as wands; the wand keys were supposed to be used in one of the last rooms in Irenicus' first dungeon that you get out of, the "throne" room with the trapped floor - there were pillars on the left side of the room that shot nasty stuff at you when you crossed the floor, but if you stuck a wand key in each corresponding pillar, it turned off the trap and the key turned into a usable wand.

Since you're already out of the first dungeon, you can't go back to convert them, and if you can't use them as wands, just dump them. Or perhaps try to sell them, but I don't know if that'll be worth it.

Slight spoiler:
highlight to read:

When you encounter a certain Drow female she will assign you a series of quests. One involves obtaining the body part of a choice of creatures. One thing to know is that you have a limited period of time to complete that particular quest (as well as the others). Once you have done so, events move quite quickly. This quest involves exploring three Underdark areas that can actually be accessed prior to headining into the Drow city. All of these areas are actually worth exploring for items and XP alone, but you may run out of time. It is not a bad idea, if this is your first time through the game and feel inexperienced, to complete one or two of these areas prior to going into the Drow city.

I have this feeling Fable might come roaring after me for saying this, since I am sure he wrote somewhere once that being able to access the said areas before getting into the Drow city is contrary to roleplaying. :D It is of course.... but I recall getting into a spot of trouble down there the first time I played the game, and had to load a much earlier save, so I thought to mention it ;) Have fun! :)

Really? Contrary to roleplaying? I always go there first on the theory that I'm bumping around in unfamiliar territory trying to find a way out. One of the dialog options for the drow in question even suggests that this was anticipated.
