I think The Shordsword of Backstabbing is good. Or alternatly, Staff of the Ram is very good too. The staff is upgradable to +6 if I remember correctly.

Here are their stats:

Un-upgraded staff
Likely created by the same unknown Archmage who is responsible for the Ring of the Ram, this Staff of Striking does not use charges and will never become useless.

STATISTICS:

Combat Abilites:
10 % Chance opponent is knocked back and stunned.

Large creatures such as a dragons or giants will not be knocked back or stunned.

THACO: +4 bonus
Damage: 1D6 + 10
Weight: 3
Speed Factor: 1
Proficiency Type: Staff
Type: Two-handed
Requires: 5 Strength

-------

Upgraded Staff
Roranach's Horn augments the Staff of the Ram's already noteworthy abilities, creating a weapon few opponents are able to stand against.

STATISTICS:

Combat Abilites:
15% Chance opponent is knocked back and stunned.

Large creatures such as a dragons or giants will not be knocked back or stunned.

THACO: +6 bonus
Damage: 1D6 + 12 crushing, +1D4 piercing
Weight: 2
Speed Factor: 1
Proficiency Type: Staff
Type: Two-handed
Requires: 5 Strength

-------

Shortsword of Backstabbing
Short Sword of Backstabbing: 'The Shadow's Blade'
The Shadow's Blade was created to be the perfect assassin's tool. It is highly sought after by any who settle differences with a blade, and many that possess it do not do so for long.

STATISTICS:

THACO: +3 bonus
Damage: 1D6 +3
Damage type piercing
Weight: 3
Speed Factor: 0
Proficiency Type: Short Sword
Type: 1-handed
Requires: 5 Strength
Not Usable By:
Druid
Cleric
Mage

Hail to BloodMist

Don't know when we suppose to get the Staff of Ram, but me thinks of weapon/type ofweapon that is best for backstabber AND also effective in ordinary fights; want to grant immunities/bonuses also...

backstabbing

What weapon is preferrable is really up to your own preferring and depends on the proficiencies you've spent on your weapons. I prefer backstabbing with (customized)daggers because of the reality. Can hardly imagine backstabbing with a staff or something. :D

you can't backstab with a staff, it'll say that it's unusable for backstab.
just use some l33t weapon you've spent your prof slots on. some l33t katana or short sword whatever
you'll do ****loads of damage neways

you CAN backstab with a staff that is usable by thieves, such as staff of the ram, not with staves that are only useble by other classes (of the magi, of curing, rod of smiting), even if you have UAI, or can use them by means of some game bug (rod of smiting)

the best combination of protection abilities/offencive abilities on one weapon would be the Blackrazor longsword. earlyer, Mazzy's sword (usable by all halflings). other good weapons in this category might be the arbane shortsword (immunities from stun, hold), equaliser, hmmm... maybe some others

for the best damage, go with celestal fury or staff of the ram, although imho they look stupid on a halfling

another good choice for certain situations might be the gnasher club, which will bleed your enemy, therfore possibly disrupting his spells if the bacstab hasn't finshed him off

Yes you can, if it's useable by thieves. Like the Staff of the Ram is.

What about Cutthroat? It's a Shortsword +4, and therefore better than the Shortsword of Backstabbing. I think you get it from Bodhi's body or something like that, it's been a while so I could be wrong.

Celestial Fury also backstabs well.

The best backstabbing weapon (but it uses charges, so use the sell/buy trick) is the staff of striking, atleast untill you get the staff of ram.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

My 2 gold worth...

You probably want at least two backstab weapons - one for speed, one for damage. The zero delay weapons can permit you to outright assasinate relatively weak creatures *cough*mages*cough*, so that you can do them in BEFORE all those pesky stoneskins. For other creatures, a higher damage weapon like Celestial fury, short sword of mask, Rod of the ram etc. are good choices.

NB - sometimes that Staff of the Ram effect is a bloody nuisance. Other times, it's a godsend. Think before using.
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

Staff of the Ram is probably the best single backstab weapon.

Short Sword of Mask and Blackrazor form a nice combo (if you have ToB installed), you run a certain risk to disintegrate enemies and thereby lose the loot, but I've never had this happening. Gotta love Blackrazor's strenght enhancing ability btw.

Well... if you are into cheesy power playing... there is always that uber katana you can obtain if you have the Solaufein mod.

lol! When I first got that thing I ended up increasing the difficulty level, then I just chucked it altogether because it made the game way too easy.

I would think that if you were going solo, that katana, along with the cloak of mirroring, belt of inertia and some of the usual items would make you almost invincible!

Why? What do the sword and the belt do?

I've personally had good results with the entire Long Sword family when it comes to backstabbing. It kind of goes after that general rule of "When hitting someone in the spine, try to use the heaviest thing you can get away with. :D "

Also the entire Katana family is nice for backstabbing.

So my picks (without any pissant MODs) would be:

Angruvadal+4-5 (ToB)
Hindo's Doom+3-4 (ToB)
or
Long Sword+3 (ToB weapon)
Blade of Roses+3
Celestial Fury (+3)

Only one of those weapons, the Blade of Roses, is readily avaiable though. For a Slums establishment, the Copper Coronet doesn't have half-****yish items like all the other vendors.

Oh, and if you cna get your hands on them (as Nephtu hinted at), try dual-weilding those with Kundane+2 (speed factor 0), or maybe Rashad's Talon (speed factor 1), or even Cutthroat+4 (same as Rashad).

Ugh... It seems this post has been down for a few... Months... Dang, I suppose that's I get for not paying attention when veiwing the "Who's Online" function.

I hope no one thinks I'm a know-it-all... That would just suck oodles of donkey. :D
Itch. It itches to feel you cleave to the song of my mettle,
