Alignment shif in ToB

I just noticed that I ended SoA with my solo Monk aligned as Lawful Nuetral (I check the Final Save). But now my alignment is Neutral Evil. Why?

I saw one thread that mentioned fighting paladins during the Test of Retribution would change your alignment. Well, can I avoid the Paladins? Or is it something else? Or can I let the Paladins kill me (but wont the game end then???). It doesnt make sense for my alignment to change from Neutral to Evil if the Paladins attack me and I kill them. Now, if I initiated the attack....

Also, I had planned this as a solo game. But my Monk is getting lonely. Can I start the Viconia romance in ToB? Or is it too late to start any romances?

@NTWayne, you've already got a thread about this under the SoA topic. Please don't duplicate it, here. As it focuses on the SoA alignment shift, I think you chose the right location in the first place.
