Where should I go, and I have an EXP question...

Post by Erithiak »

Okay...So my party is self-made. There are five of em.
(Main Character) Fighter Elf LVL 7
Fighter Dwarf LVL 7
Human Cleric LVL 7
Elf Figher(LVL 6)/Theif(LVL 6)
Human Illusionist LVL 7

Right now I'm near the end of Chapter 5. My question is should I go to Candlekeep first, or do the ToSC Quests first?

Also, what's the highest level I can get to if I have ToSC installed?

From a purely role-playing perspective, I would do the TotSC stuff first. After you come back you will have other concerns that would seem to take priority.

Of course, you could pretend that you were laying low and trying to avoid Baldur's Gate for awhile until things calmed down, but that seems rather thin.

Your fighters and cleric can get up to level 8, your mage to level 9, your F/T to 7/8.

How do you have such high level characters while still in Chap 5?

TotSC is tough. Don't try the werewolf island, and don't even think about Durlag's Tower. You can go the Ice Isle and get some xp there. Do the Baldur's Gate quests, and go to Candlekeep. Do a bit of Chap 7 (you'll need to so that the city is accessible [you'll know what i'm talking about when you get there]). Then go the Werewolf island. And then finally into Durlag's Tower, if you dare!

From a strategic (non-RPG) point of view, go to Candlekeep and then back to BG again. Finish everything except the fight with Sarevok before taking on the "Ice Island", Werewolf Island and Durlag's Tower (in that order). Go back kill Sarevok. Good hunting!!

Here's the updates:

I'm doing ToSC, I cleared the ice dungeon, and I'm in Durlag's tower. However, I'm stuck on the forth level (Not the Chess game)
It's the level with that rune carpet, I can't find the special wardstone to open that door past the slimey room with ghouls and carrion crawlers, and I've answered 2 of the golems. There's a secret door in the north room that doesn't let me lockpick or force open...I just don't know where to go.
...Any plan's involving not going over the acid would help ;)

How'd I get my characters so high? I did all the quests I could find as early as I could in the game, and there's only five characters, more XP for all

You'll find the compass wardstone on a ghoul named Grael, who is in the area with all the acid pools. He's easy to miss, since he's behind a secret door, so search this area carefully.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Go here before you go and get the wardstones.

I can't remember it happening to me, but in certain instances the rune carpet doesn't disarm even when you've put the rune in the machine.

Baldurdash has a patch for it, it doesn't hurt to install it just in case does it?

Hello

It's possible to disarm the rune carpet. By placing the bone rune in that machine. But you must stay very close to the machine and then click on it. By my it don't get it from the first time but I tried it again and than it does it. And you can go savely over the rune carpet.

The bone rune can you find in the slimy caves. Take your time to explore it because it can take a while for you find a secret door.

Have luck!

Possible Spoiler

*spoiler is possible*

If you are refering to the thing at the bottom of Durlags Tower, with it's mirror, then yes it is the end of DT.

But....(highlight)

When you get back to Ulgoths Beard you will be attacked by a cult, they want the Dagger you had to get for the dwarf in the inn(remember). When you investigate you come to the room in Ulgoths Beard with the red sign, If you want help with THAT fight, just post again.

Alright...I've gotten to the red room...but that monster is just...urg...you know...

To kill the thing, do you just beat it mercilessly, heal it, or kill all the cult guards?

Kill the guards first,
then the beast.

I Don't have good advice,
I've beaten him once, and that was in a solo game, and I just backstabbed the hell out of him.
(2 backstabs with the staff of striking and he's gone )
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Okay, a few tips that work well.

Have your thief buy the ring of invisibility and a large amount of potions with the same effect.

Get as many potions of mirrored eyes you can get.

Now here's what you do.... (highlight)

Let everyone drink the potions of mirrored eyes, this way your whole party can go downstairs, have your thief go invisible. Now, summon a lot of animals and skeletons to keep the demon busy, because it's melee attacks are equaly damaging. Your thief is busy backstabbing the cultists. The rest of your party is killing the mage and chopping in on the Demon.
If your timing is okay (this isn't the hard part) your thief will have killed the cultists and can join in the chopping of the Demon. Remember to keep drinking Mirrored Eyes because they wear of pretty quikly!
