after asylum?

So this is my problem: How should I get away from the island? Through the portal or by ship? Are there any other options and do I get to play both the Underdark and the Shaguain city no matter what I choose? Please help, I don´t know what to do and I want to play all the areas!

Portal = sraight to the underdark
Boat = shaugain city and then the underdark.

BTW. Shaugain city is easy and doesn't give much good stuff, but I still wouldn't skip it.
