If you could be a god of legend, who would it be? (spam on topic)

All are fair game, including Western monotheistic deities whose followers sometimes really hate the presence of other gods on the block.

Bear in mind, you can't change what they're a god of. You can't decide to be Artemis because she has a wicked cool bow, then make her a goddess of romance novels. Besides, if you do, you'll probably get an arrow in the sternum.

Me, I'm partial to Volos, the Slavic horned lord, who ruled animals, trade, the underworld, poets, bards and magic. A sort of super-Herne, with Apollo thrown in. You could get a lot of mileage out of that.

Incidentally.... there is actually some debate regarding her relationships (or lack thereof) with men. Apparently, a more recent interpretation is that it was simply she did not have a permanent consort....

You're right: Cthulhu was just the result of Lovecraft being locked in dark rooms as a child. It isn't a god. It isn't even real. At best, it is a customs agent. But all is not lost: possibly we could start up another thread for the customs agent you want to be.

Quetzacoatl. mainly because he's got a cool name.

Being a winged serpent is also pretty neat, if I recall my mythology correctly. One of a kind sort of thing. You'd probably evoke a lot of interest at parties.

I think I'd be the egyptian god Seth (either the good or the evil version will be fine). I'd spend my day brutally weeding out all the people who claim they were egyptian temple priestesses in a previous life

In most likelyhood they're lying, in which case they're infidels that should be punished. If by any chance they're telling the truth, I need to eradicate any evidence of their existence since it goes against the tenets of the traditional egyptian faith (which of course also qualify them as infidels

Since monotheistic deities are not excluded I'd have to be God. Yeah, I'm talking about the nameless deity which most major religions worship. There is just something that I like about not sharing power with others, and not having a name is original

Not nameless. The ancient Habiru, whose descendants are (in part) the modern Jews, believed that not naming their god was a sign of great respect to a most awful, frightening deity with the power over life and death. But the god's name was/is the consonants JHVH, in a semitic language where vowel sounds are governed by custom. So that god has frequently been represented by Jahweh, and more conventionally in the US by Jehovah.

Wisdom? Well, that depends upon whom you speak with. Employees of Microsoft and politicians in general who know nothing about it will swear by its enormous creativity and wisdom. Others who are intimately aware of Microsoft products and the company's activities will just as often swear at them. I suppose when you get down to it, it's more of a Ahura Mazdah/Ahriman kinda thing.
