Question: How can you increase stats in IWD II?
Question: How can you increase stats in IWD II?
I've played up to the Auralite (sp?) castle in Icewind Dale II, and have experimented with several parties. While the game is entertaining on it's own; I've often found myself frustrated at the low intial stats. How would I increase the ability scores of my characters, without leveling up? As you can imagine, I haven't found any item codes for Tomes, as in the Baldur's Gate Series. and I'm a complete moron when it comes to programming of any kind. (Ruling out some of the "Tool Kits" I've seen.) Would there be any way to have a 20int drow mage with 16con, and still be able to put points into the other four abilities, for example? Any cheats, downloads, bugs or strategies would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

It's based on character level, so like a tiefling at effective level 5 will get an attribute point and a lightfoot halfling would get an attribute point at level 4. And as far as items go that increase attributes..there aren't really any static items in the game like that, I see pretty random items myself.
There are indeed items scattered throughout the game that will boost some stats while they are worn/used. One such item is a suit of armor, which increases the wearer's Strength by 4 while worn. Another item is a ring which increases a few stats - though I forget which ones specifically. Items Oswald makes out of Winter Wolf Pelts has the effect of raising the wearer's Charisma score by 1 while worn (in addition to giving cold resistance), though I discovered the bonuses are *not* cumulative when more than one such item is worn. Quite handy for your paladin or Sorcerer. There are a few obligatory belts in the game that of course increase your strength, one such belt called "Little Giant" (STR increase of +4). And there is at least one set of Ogre Power gauntlets in the game, if I recall correctly. There are also some weapons in the game that will increase some stats.
Most interesting is the potion that allows a cleric or paladin to permanently raise their wisdom stat by 1, while suffering a -2 reduction to their constitution stat. No big deal if your constitution wasn't very high to begin with.
@Sucineri: The stat-raising items I mentioned above are indeed always found in the same location...that ring I mentioned is worn by a particular foe, though naturally I can't seem recall exactly who this was.
