When unsure as to what to do next, always check your journal (hot key "j"). You'll find most of the info you need there.

The temple is in the Temple District. And, welcome to the GB forums. :)

Also when you look at you're map you can see that most of the buildings in the City are named for you, so you can find you're way around

thanks, and thanks for the welcome. I need to build up my levels so I can beat the ogres that instantly attack me... ugh! Also can you help me with the magic. All the papers I get in my inventory, how do i get rid of them and learn them at the same time? I need to make some space in my inventory.

To memorize spells, right click on it in the inventory screen, then click on the "write magic" option to write them into your spellbook.

Memorising spells

Sometimes you'll have to drink a portion of Genius, or two --if you play on Core difficulty-- because there is a percentage in the chance of learning a spell.

When you have copied the spells to your mage's book, choose which ones you want your mage to memorise and then sleep.

Also, when you have a scroll of a spell already existing in your mage's book, there is no need to throw the scroll away. Sometimes it helps to have additional scrolls of a specific spell (i.e., Invisibility, Stoneskin, etc.). In order to free space in your inventory, put the extra scrolls in a Scroll case.

By the way, don't you have a manual of the game? I don't know where is mine, but I do recall finding a lot of useful info there when I first played the game.

yes but magic is very complicated to me... Maybe someone has a fan site I can look at. also one last newb question lol. My mage Nalia, she cannot use her magic abilities, how come? The reason I deseperately need them is because I am facing a sorcerer in the the keep. He is extremely difficult and I am having trouble beating him.

The most logical explanation is that you probably have worn some armour or something on Nalia, and that's why she can't use her wizard spells.

Hmmm... let me think. It could be any of these reasons.

1) If the spellcasting icon is grayed out, it could be because of body armor. Being a Thief/Mage, the only type of armor she can wear to be able to cast spells is a robe. Mage dual/multi-classes cannot wear armor (except for Drow/Elven chain or mage robes) and cast wizard spells at the same time; same thing for Bards (except they can't wear mage robes).

2) Does she have any spells memorized?

3) Have you checked her for negating statuses, such as Deafness or Silence? If you CAN cast spells, but none/few are successfully cast, this could be the problem.

Well, that's the most I can think of. Hope this helps.

Yeah, you're best off giving her bracers that increase her Armor Class for now. That's unless you plan to give the Glove of Pocket Picking (or however the last 2 words are placed) when you get them.

Aubrey: Funny, in one of my latest files in Chpt. 5, I've found that Imoen has actually been recieving penalties to her thieving skills (-20 to them) when she wears drow chainmail. When I was ever able to play that far in the game when I first played the game, this didn't seem to occur, from what I knew. Either I just didn't, or the patch for the game really made this occur. Any insight?

Ah, and a pearl to ye as well.

The thing is, lad, I dunna remember ol' Yoshimo recieving penalties to his skills from his leather armor. He be wearin' The Night's Gift (+3 Leather Armor w/ +20 bonus to Hide in Shadows, IIRC), and his skills didn't take a single hit. Any ideas?

Just checked the game to make sure a second ago, and I weren't seein' things.

The Night's Gift (and one other that I can't recall the name of) is specifically made for thieves and actually increases their bonuses, so you wouldn't expect the penalty to apply.

Some thoughts I'm having on this subject

That's more likely it. Besides, Jan Jansen's personal body armor is vanilla leather armor (IOW, non-studded), with enchantments.

JackofClubs, are you reffering to the Shadow Armor you get on Maevar's (sp?) corpse? I thought that was studded leather armor.

I could imagine some belt for thieves that is what's known as a 'housebreaker'. A magic one is featured in R. A. Salvatore's Crimson Shadow series, which gives a certain character (won't spoil whom to those who may read the books but hasn't yet) the capabilities to open various locks, take out glass, traps, etc.

Anyways, I could imagine this giving a character in BG2 some bonus to Pick Pockets, Open Locks, and Detect/Disarm Traps. Of course, part of the idea from this is the growing hope to enhance the game in my own way. Still, BG2 is an amazing game, though it almost feels like the fun factor is lightly tarnishing. I'm not a mod person (I don't like the fact that they're permanent until uninstallation of the game). I just want a little more fun, no actual cheese, just added fun. *grumbles, can't make up his mind*

Hopefully, when I get my Bard in BG2, it's going to be different.
