winXP compatibility with IWD?

Post by Hesperus »

Is IWD compatible with winXP? I have the HoW installed and have the patch, but am still getting graphics glitches on my new system with winXP home edition. I believe my drivers are ok and I have the current version of directX.

problem solved

Well for what its worth, I fixed the problem. After downloading the official patch from Interplay, I by played around with the graphics settings from the options page, enabling the following BLT's: software mirror, transparent, and standard (as well as enabling the rest of the settings for the graphics bonuses) in addition to setting the game to 16mb rather than 32mb. Turning the game to 16mb after the rest of the graphics settings is what fixed the problems the game was having. The performance and graphics resolution are still excellent with all those settings enabled, and I've experienced no odd crashed after playing a couple hours.

The problems I was having were: the characters were shifting about on a square distinct from the rest of the graphics field, green blocks formed about the screen, and characters walked backwards frequently. Like I said, until I put the graphics to 16mb, the problem persisted (though enabling the BLTs helped a bit while on 32mb). The load screen, movies, and character generation worked fine before the settings changes.

Ahh, a sigh of relief. Now to hook up BGI and II...
