I need help please 'game crash'

its a long shot but I was told to try here.

I bought BGII in late 2000.
playing the game recently I found that the 'cd2' on SOA doesnt work, when loading the docks area the game crashes.
I cant reinstall the game because it now refuses or cant read file 'AREA003.bif' on CD2 to be exact. I tried it on 2 other cd players and no success.

anyone can post this file somewhere (longshot since it is 37mb) or have any idea in what to do. the shop I bought it from says it too late to do anything.

Have you tried contacting Bioware's tech support? I've heard of players being able to exchange their CDs for newer ones. I'm not sure if there's a charge; I've heard of at least one or two cases where all that was required was the actual original CD, functioning as proof of purchase.
