Romances?

Post by Shin Jaon »

I've seen a lot of discussion about romances and such. The only problem I have is I have no idea what you are talking about. I mean seriously, are they important? Do they have ups and downs? If so how can I have one with Jaheira?

Are they important? Absolutely not. Some people see 'em as a challenge, but given the blatant linearity of the romances, they're pretty silly IMO. Discussions are complex enough to manage successfully in a multiple choice RPG; the intimacy of human relationships reduced to a single-path of A/B/C/D answers for "victory" just doesn't cut it. It's an interesting idea, of course, but discussion will probably remain the last frontier to be truly conquered by game developers in the future--if they ever do manage it; since the apparent simplicity of even the most obvious human dialog contains a huge number of emotional and logical variables beneath the surface.

But if you want to try the romancces out, just do a search on "romance." There are tons of threads archived here on the subject. :)

(cough) Well, I have been known to refer to the fact that the romance code was probably written by a 300-pound guy named Bubba, but each to their own, you know. ;)
