Crooked Cane/Lich/Daystar (Spoilers!)

Post by Incertainty »

Crooked Cane/Lich/Daystar

What the hell? I thought you could whoop that lich like there was no tomorrow if you just walked in, grabbed Daystar, and creamed him?! I cast haste, prot. from evil 10' radius, walk in with my gnome illusionist thief, grab Daystar, and give it to my longsword/katana -specializing kensai - soon to be mage. In possesion of a longsword +1 and Daystar, she walks over to the lich, expecting to reduce him to ribbons in mere seconds, only to find out 'weapon ineffective'?! WTF?! Then I though I'd just let him summon the pit fiend and let him be slaughtered by his own summon, but with one spell he banishes the demon!

PLEASE HELP!!!

@Incertainty, please label threads like this with a SPOILER designation--the site owner has requested it on a sticky thread, towards the top of this forum. You're given away major hints right in this first post. I'll change this one for you, but would appreciate you're looking after this yourself in the future. I really don't treasure getting a PM mailbox full of complaints about answer giveaways, you know. ;)

Keldorn. Carsomyr. Protection from Evil. Haste. Anything else you care to throw at him. Send in a few summoned critters at the same time, just to distract the lich. I was surprised how swiftly Keldorn dealt with him.

when i fought the lich with my party on level 9 and 10's. I ran in with Yoshimo on hide in the shadows, stole the Daystar and ran back out... I've fought it before...... :( I'm never gonna fight it again after what happened the first time. lol

Ive finished the game now... i still wouldnt try fighting it even with most of my party on level 19 and 18. lol

The use of daystar against the lich is not using it as a normal weapon and attacking him with it. Daystar has the special ability 'Sunray'. Use this spell on the lich (accessed through the back-pack looking button right between your weapons and quick items - it most conveniently looks like a sunray), and he will be vaporized.

Try searching these forums, there is alot of information to be found if you are prepared to spare twenty minutes (far less time than it usually takes to get the right response).

Anyway, if worst comes to worst:

SPOILER:

Go and buy a 'protection from undead' scroll, cast it on one character and go inand kill lich without resistance- pretty cheesy if you ask me- thats the easy way out- much more fun and rewarding to dual in out.

BTW, why were you......

expecting to reduce him to ribbons in mere seconds

?????

It is a lich after all, to be honest there isnt too much more intimidating creatures in athkatla than a lich when your a low level party.

Anyway- tactics before bravado

As Baked Goods said. What would be the fun and sense of accomplishment in knocking over a powerful lich with a willow tree branch? ;)

So, I should just use a prot. from undead scroll? How do I damage him though? Even sunray didn't seem to work.

Back again after a long summer vacation with no computers.

The problem with hitting him is he cast weapon protection. Mantle, Improved Mantle, Absoloute Immunity, Protection From Normal Weapons and Protection From Magical Weapons are all weapon protection spells and ay one of those makes Daystar ineffective. I ussually steal it with thief and come back later. My worst problem with liches are that i can get Sunray to work they always save. Once or twice i destroyed a lich with Sunray. That means i have to make my own tactics. My other problems are that i prefer to solo (i tried with a sorc and was hooked. still play a litle party though) and this makes it worse. and here i end my rambling (to long since i posted)

Well, if you have resorted to to such underhand almost cheesy tactics as the scroll (as i have done myself many times when i can't be bothered dealing with lich's  ), simply cast it on a party member, then walk in and say hello with your axe (or whatever) to the face- simple.

Sunray can be saved against so dont bother, before you open the chest just smack the btch up- you shouldn't encounter any contingencies- if you do, just keep hitting him and wait for them to disappear (or use weapons with elemtal damage, i.e +2 Fire damage, as this with penetrate stoneskin etc and staer doing damage strat away.

Good luck young jedi
