Can you people tell me what kind of system specs i need to play morrowind at an acceptaple fps with decent graphics settings. I am currently running a pentium celeron 633 with 128 megs of ram and a 32 meg graphics card built into the motherboard (its really sad isn't it) i need this info because im upgrading or replacing my P.O.S.
P.S. i would also like to know what operating system is best for morrowind.
sys specs help
all I can recommend is more ram. 256 meg for sure, 512 is even better. Ram is really cheap now so go crazy. A graphics card would be great, but since you have an onboard one, you would need to exchange your entire motherboard to get one (costly).
your procecor should run the game, a faster one would obviously be better.
I have a
1.6 gHz PIV
64 Meg geforce 2
256 Meg ram
and my game gets choppy at times (running at only 800x600)

get win 98 second edition if at all possible...
end of this year, I am going hog wild, and getting a two gig ram p4 with the best graphics card on the market...
I hate my clunker of a p3 machine..it was the best possible configuration 4 years ago, now I hate it...

I agree with all the answers and here's my 2 cents worth:
I am running an AMD 1.7 Ghz
512 RAM
Win XP
GeForce FX5600 (not the best but could'nt justify spending $500 on a card)
This game is a MAJOR resource hog and I was getting some unacceptable frame rates until I installed the MW FPS optimizer (Geez, for all the times I recommend it you'd think I was getting a kick back or something)
All I know is that when I run it with the game I have smooth gameplay... even in Bloodmoon while battling a horde of Rickling Raiders in a blinding snowstorm. I think unless you have the absolute top of the line gaming machine you are going to experience slow FPS sometimes. I won't even play the game if it's choppy - gives me a headache. So this program was my cure. I think you need to be running Win XP, can't remember but here is the link.

I think I mentioned before you need xp or 2000 or nt to run fps optimizer...the readme spells it out very clearly...
now for those of you who are running chunkers like me, who are using win 98, because while xp will run on my system, the performance loss due to installing xp will be greater than that gained by being able to use fps optimizer, go to
http://www.gamefaq.com
and look for the morrowind tweeking faq.
using that, and some tricks, i am able to get around 10-16 fps in balmora, where as before I was lucky to get 5....
and over 30 in interior cells...
but I plan on getting a new machine for myself for christmas, a major gaming platform, with a very expensive graphics card, and the fastest processor I can get my hands on, and over a gig in memory....
just to run knights of the old republic...hahhahhahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
