High Stats
High Stats
Just wondering, what classes do you think would benefit from insanely high stats? For example:
An elven thief who has Kiel's Buckler, the Tomb of Dexterity, and a Dex of 19 to begin with.
A Cleric that has used all three tombs of Wis making his Wisdom Potentially 21
I'm a fan of high dex, but I can't figure out what class it would be the best with.

No probalo.
dex gives better ac, so whoever needs ac give them it. It also helps you from getting spells interrupted, so give it to a mage or cleric who needs ac and gets in battle too often

Have you ever heard any more inspiring or logical words? I sure haven't.

Well, I ended up beating this game with a Paladin that had these stats at the end of it:
19 Str
17 Dex
19 Con
11 Int
17 Wis
19 Cha
For stat-boosting equipment, he had the Nymph Cloak and the Helm of Glory equip (to decrease shop prices, mainly). Trust me, he kicked MAJOR ARSE! I also think he got the most kills in my party in the end.

not bad, but you can get 4 or 5 pairs of gloves of weapon expertise (Tazok @ camp, Swordguy at Firewine, BG harbor, dont remember others).
And I wonder how the thief is so low level compared to the others
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

4 or 5 pairs?
are you sure?
You have the weapon skill and the weapon expertise but I cant remeber that there are more.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

I remember I had Str and dex gauntles and those archery things, rest of the guys had gloves of weapon expertise/skill and I had to sell some cause I had more of them than NPCs. Locations:
- Tazok @ bandits' camp
- crate @ bg harbor
- Meilum @ Firewine Bridge
- Larze (ogre assassin) in BG inn (blushing mermaid).

Bragging rights aside, from a practical standpoint, if your character is not a Thief, the only difference between DEX 18 and DEX 20 is an additional +1 missile attack bonus. Also, DEX 18-20 only gives you an additional +1 AC bonus compared to DEX 17. To put it another way, the only difference between an "ordinary" DEX 17 and a "superhuman" DEX 20 is an additional +1 missile attack bonus and an additional +1 AC bonus. I don't think that's very significant, although the extra missile attack bonus does make Coran the best archer in the game, since he also has three proficiency points in Bows (which a Fighter can have but which a multi-class Fighter/Thief usually cannot have).
DEX 21, which improves on both of those bonuses by another +1, is where the real difference begins. If you play a Thief, I think you get about 5 more thieving points in each thieving skill for each additional DEX point. (The table in the manual stops at DEX 19.)
CON 20 is where your character starts to regenerate hit points (you will be fully healed when you rest), but CON 21 is where you start getting 6 extra hit points per level instead of the 5 extra points you get for having CON 19 or CON 20. You don't get 7 extra hit points per level until you reach CON 24, so I think CON 21 is optimal, and you can actually achieve it without cheating if you play BG2: Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal.

Minor FYI
My 2 gold worth on stats:
STR is useful to everyone, though especially to fighters - OTOH, there's loads o'plus STR items
CON is useful to everyone, over 17 really only helps fighters
WIS is really only useful to priests
INT is really only useful to mages
DEX is a bit complex, well summarized above by VonDondu
CHA is irrelevant, except for class requirements as it's so easily boosted.
SoA spoiler below for those who care, highlight to read.
In case you care, you don't have to take ANY negatives in SoA on the Bhaal tear quests - just read Spell Immunity - Divination from a scroll and it will negate the effects.

I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.
Re: Wishes..
Pretty frequently.
