does it make any difference in the game if you play a male or female char ?
i mean do the npc realize it ( not the ones you can take with you the others)

It depends, Romances will be different. Like a male as a main can't romance a male and a female main can't romance a female. But over all there is no difference except when NPCs adress you, Lady, Lord; She, Him; so on.

I think probably the best romance to me is Jaheira, But I can't say that because that's the only Romance I got into. I started Vioconia, can't spell, but her and Jaheira don't mix well. What I want is a romance with Nalia, that would be interesting.

there is one point where being male matters and being a female will mean you miss out, but there are no lasting rewards from it
in the same place that this happens being a female is better but once again there are no lasting rewards
