Things working out differently after reload

Post by boo's daddy »

Hello

Do things in BGII happen differently after a reload, i.e. is it part of the game programming to reward people who don't "cheat"?

I ask because of a weird thing that happened to me on the Unseeing Eye quest.

I'd assembled the rift device and, when the Eye appeared, duly snuffed him with it. Unfortunately, he managed to hit Aerie with a power word kill first, and she was the only one in my party who could use the Rod of Resurrection. D'OH!

So, much as I hate to do it, I reloaded and did it again. This time, the Eye didn't appear. No amount of wandering around could summon him up. I ended up using the Device on the lich and just left it at that.

Anyone else come across this or similar things?

cheers

Methinks it's a bug. You can get a fix at Baldurdash.

<Sniff> <Sniff> Do I smell some uber-yummy cheese?

edit:

BTW, just to be certain, you didn't save the game before you picked up the second rift device piece, right?

So, it wasn't just me.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm pretty sure the Rod was grayed out when I tried to give it to someone else, though it was some time ago and I'm not sure. I've just started the game again, so we'll see.

Yes, I saved it after assembling the device. I suppose I could've gone back to an earlier save, but couldn't be arsed.

(Checks out Baldurdash)

OMG, what a list of bugs! That explains a lot. Now then, do they have mac equivalents...?

<Edit: forget that, just found a couple of sites>

cheers

PS - it's a pity it doesn't keep some sort of record of where you've reloaded just after getting snuffed; it'd be groovy if the game rewarded people for not saving too often (you know, the "rush in to find out where the baddies are, then reload and nail them" approach).

PPS - what's all this about cheese? Are you holding out on us hamsters?

Cheese = Over-powerful tactics, usually ones that take advantage of pecularities or bugs in the game engine.
