I also do tech support, and Windows XP is by far the best Windows OS around, it's more reliable and faster than any of the previous OS's. I run it on my machine, without any problems.
I can run BG2 on my machine under XP, but I had to run the config tool in 98 compatibility mode. You will also need to disable 3D acceleration.

My only problem is that BG2 seems to trigger reboots every 10 minutes

BG2 runs fine under WinXP. Just make sure you download the latest drivers for your graphics card, so 3D accelleration will work.
I love WinXP.
Sure, everything was incompatible at first (
), but now the only thing still not working is our scanner (and also our Microsoft joystick, which we had to throw out because they decided not to support it
).
But it's still a great OS. Complete crashes are non-existent, programs are faster, and a start-up of under 1.5 minutes.

If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

@BlackBreeze: I had that same problem under Win98, so it's not related to XP.

best ever was win 95 osr 2.5!
every body knows this, for stability and reliability.
nt 4 with serve pak 3 is also outstanding. note I mention stuff that is reliable and predictable, as they all were majorly buggy and YOu need to decide what you want to do and choose os to fit. anyway, every body knows the most reliable systems are
Os2
linux!!!!

You're talking rubbish. People like to bathe in this myth that 95 was some stable wonderland. It wasn't.
XP is faster than 95, XP is a hell of a lot more stable than 95, and should you have a crash, XP is more likely to recover than 95.
XP is simply the best Windows OS around.
NT4 with sp 3....you're kidding right? If you didn't have the latest service pack then you were screwing yourself. Not to mention that 2000 blows NT4 out of the water.
Linux, nice idea, but it's not there yet, not by a long shot.

I have the latest nVIDIA drivers, and 3D acceleration still doesn't work. What graphics card do you use?Originally posted by Gaxx_Firkraag:
