ToEE gone Gold

Post by Jibblies »

So this came as kind of a surprise to me. ToEE is going to be in stores in about two weeks. So far everything I've heard about it looks pretty positive and frankly if Troika did it then I'm probably going to get it.

FYI Tim Cain from Troika is doing an open chat at Gamespy today

Wait and see, wait and see. The publicity hoopla before a product comes out is always heavily orchestrated. Remember the way Dungeon Siege was supposed to be the end-all in Diablo-style games? And Ultima IX: Ascenscion (which we called Ultima IX: Disaster) raised a flurry of hype until it showed up--and bombed terribly.

I don't think TOEE will bomb. Some of those developers have fine credentials. But I think expectations should be kept on hold until we see the final product. Just my POV. :)

Couldn't agree with you more. But anticipation is sometimes hard to control. I've been waiting for something new from Troika since Arcanum so news of this game definitely got my attention. I've got more questions than answers about the game so proceeding with caution is definitely the plan. It's good that the devs are making themselves available to questions though!

Anticipation is a sweet savory, but it can also make the meal itself seem harsh and bitter. ;) I'm keeping myself free from interviews and TOEE websites until I actually play the game. Each to their own. :)

Corsair, you may want to read the rules posted at the top of the page--particularly, rule 3. ;)

Look at the very top of the page. You should see "Forum Rules," as one of four links. :)

I agree...

with you both on the hype issue, but I thought it was interesting that the developers said they have not beaten the game in the ironman mode... or so they claim. I guess this adds to the challenge anticipation.

I certainly hope this game is good. A true turn-based D&D RPG sounds like a lot of fun.

I really want to run out and get this the day it comes out, but I need to remember what happened when I did that will Pool of Radience...

okay so i've learned somethings recently. apparently going "gold" does not mean it'll be in stores, but that the developers finished the game and got it to the publisher. Hopefully it'll be out soon though.

That's typical game industry slang for "being pretty darn finished" but not yet released. Gold is a good indication of when we'll be seeing a game - right now I think ToEE is slated for Sept 23 (thank you, Tim Cain).

my own two cents

I believe the term "gone gold" means that the game is complete and cds are being mass produced for retail sales.

Yeah, ToEE is starting to sound like something nice. I'm considering buying it at this point. It sounds like there's going to be enough to the gameplay to really attract me to it.

You should all check out the greyhawk_walkthrough video on http://www.greyhawkgame.com

It is zipped at 92MB, but it is certainly worth the time to download. It shows an actual gameplay demonstration and it really looks great!

I can't wait for the release and have already ordered the game, and I don't think this one will be a disappointment in any way, shape, or form.
