getting started: Belt; basement; key; gem

Post by T RAND »

attempting to start the game
Belt sends me to the basement to get some gem.
There's supposed to be a key. Is there a key? Where is it? What is it for? How do I find the key? How do I use the key?
This could be the shortest game I never play.
Is there a lot of searching for keys in this game?
Are there secret passages and hidden rooms in this game?

Ttutorial, I think

I think you're lost in the tutorial. It's been so long I can't remember the details - you generally need to talk to a bunch of NPCs & follow their instructions - the odds are if a door is locked, the tutorial wants you to do something else first. Nothing in it was terribly complex.

In general, there are, I think about a dozen keys in the game, and there are certainly a fair number of hidden doors, as well as traps, locks, etc., but you will probably have means of detecting them.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but it should give you some idea what to do - retrace your steps & see if you haven't missed something. Someone else can probably give you better advice (at least I hope so)

Good luck!

Yhe key must be in a chest around there in the basement. The point is that you must kill the monsters and then collect the key, just like that.
IMHO there are A LOT of secret passages and hidden doors. I guarantee you'll discover all of them though. Either pick the right PC or pick up the right item. :)

The basement is pretty small. Keep checking for traps, kill all the monsters, look in all the containers, it'll only take about 10 mins.

Don't worry, I don't think there's any 'searching' for keys in the game, you get most of the given you. There are secret passages and hidden rooms, but most of them glow purple just when you walk past.

I tried again, successfully. Before I was using the thieving skill cursor to check items. Using the regular cursor causes a lot more items to light.

After finishing the first chapter, I can now answer my question.
Key searching? Yes. That's the main activity in this game.
Second place activity is dying and reloading.

Ha ha...

Key searching is hardly the main activity, trust me - dying and reloading? Well, it'll happen less once you get the hang of things a bit better, but yeah, it happens - even to Bondari

Once you get the hang of the interface, you'll find that dying on an average difficulty level is a very occasional problem.

Just remember to make sure you rest your party members regularly (to regain spells and hit points), and keep your fighters first in line. You might also set your options to pause the game whenever an enemy appears.

Feel free to ask here if you have any other questions. And welcome to GameBanshee. :)

Oh yeah, I guess the first chapter is almost entirely about keys :D
But seriously, there is practically no key searching at all in the rest of the game.
