Rings!

Post by Mini Me »

I have too many rings, and i dont know what to allocate to who...can you help plz? (the wierd ones are from Darkest Day)

I have 3xRing of Wizardry
2x ring of Acuity
Ring of Earth Control
Ring of Holiness
2x ring of the ram
2x ring of gaxx
Aegis of Torment: 3CON, 3AC(bonus), +15HP
Ring of Aravorn: Wis + 1, 25% MR, +1 4th 5th 6th and 7th priest spell (druid or cleric only)
Ring of Battle skill: +2 THAC0

My party is;
Me (Mage)
Mazzy
Jaheira
Anomen
Jan
Kelsey (sorceror for those who dont know :) )

i like to keep both rings of the ram with the helm of vhailor (currently on mazzy) so i can have four rings of ram.

any ideas folks?

You mean you don't use the Ring of Fire Control, the Ring of Free Action, or the Rings of Regeneration? :)

Here are some suggestions:

Me (Mage) - Ring of Wizardry, Ring of Acuity
Mazzy - Ring of Battle Skill, Aegis of Torment
Jaheira - Ring of Gaxx, Ring of Holiness
Anomen - Ring of Aravorn, Ring of Gaxx
Jan - Ring of Acuity, Ring of Wizardry
Kelsey - Ring of Wizardry, Ring of the Ram

I assume that Anomen and Jaheira are your frontline fighters and Mazzy mainly uses ranged weapons. I always give the Ring(s) of Gaxx to my frontline fighters because they need the most protection and they always take the most damage (so that's where regeneration helps the most).

The Ring of Battle Skill and the Aegis of Torment would help make Mazzy a better melee fighter, especially if you can raise her CON by another point (resulting in a 20 with the Aegis of Torment). If you equip her with a girdle of giant strength, then you could make her a frontline fighter, as long as you give her proficiency points in something besides Shortsword and Shortbow and equip her with a decent weapon.

I don't try to buff up my spellcasters all that much; I keep them out of melee and let them cast spells. The Ring of the Ram has its uses, so it would be nice to use that second one, but I'd rather use all of the Rings of Wizardry and Acuity and get all of those extra spells.

If you have the Ring of Free Action, I'd consider giving it to Jaheira instead of the Ring of Holiness. And there are definitely times when I like to use Rings of Fire Resistance and the Ring of Fire Control.

I think the Rings of the Ram are only good in certain situations, so I only wear them when i know I'll need them.
Other Rings are better for "daily use" ;)

I agree with VonDondu, with exception of cleric/druid rings. I think Jaheira would be better off with the Ring of Aravorn, because I prefer high level druidic spells to cleric, like insect plague, iron skin, elemental summonings. Also, Anomen should get Holy Symbol when he hits 25th level, and that grants extra 6th & 7th level, magic registance and +1 strength. That's the way I like it, anyway.

If you are really trouble deciding, how about downloading Item Upgrade mod? ;)

i personally think the item upgarde mod is too cheesy. part of the game is allocating equipment with careful thought, and item upgrade is just a cheap way to avoid that.

i also forgot to mention the mercykiller ring (yikes another one)

and concerning fire control, i am only in C2 so i dont have it yet.

Thanks for all the advice.
For now ive settled on:

Me: Ring of Acuity and wizardry
MAzz: Ram and Torment
Jaheira: GAxx and Aravorn (i agree that druids are better than clerics for high lvl spells)
Jan: Mercykiller wizardry
Kelsey: ram and wizardry

For anomen i have given a gaxx, but im still uncertain whether to give him battle skill or holiness...

You haven't seen Ruad mod. Now, that's insane cheese. :D Someone recommended me a few weeks ago, but the items there are just over the top for my liking. I use the mod, because I don't like my back pack is so disorganized. And I don't use bottomless bag of holdings. ;)

EDIT
I meant I've got Item Upgrade mod, not Ruad. :D

Gods, you're right about that. I think that if the player and their party can have such weapons, in all fairness the monsters deserve some game-killers, too. ;)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
