Moat House Ogre (tactic/spoiler)

Post by Regulator »

You'll need ranged attackers for this.

In the room where the Ogre is, there is a doorway on the East (?) wall with a stairscase immediately after it.

If you stand by the top step (slightly away from the door), you can attack the ogre with ranged attacks.
Apparently, he's too big to fit through the doorway and stops there.
He'll stand there until your archer/magic user kill him with their ranged attacks.

Just be sure to stand far enough away from the doorway. Although the ogre can't fit through it, he can still reach out and bash you through it.

The ballad of the laughing ogre

(ahem, sign along everybody)

Once upon a time,
A pack of adventurers came to to moath
and filled it with horrendous laughs
Lubash, the mighty ogre couldn't resist
As there was nobody with to assist
he was put out of it's misery
by an helpless band of wannabes

Oh I once heard the same song about a giant too.
And a giant bull frog!
and...

spoiler/tactic

beside tashas irrisistible laughs (1st level bard and m-u without a level cap like sleep) to render helpless powerful monsters,
one can cast invisibility or sanctuary and go past the monsters.
if there's loot or chests, I believe you should be able to pick it, empty it without getting attacked (cleric-rogue with sanctuary, invisible rogue) - (oh man, look at this angry giant on the plain with no loot left). in fact I managed to do so really simply with sneaking rogue/ranger. sneak is not supposed to work well for a ranger in a dungeon though.

do not try to spell-knock a chest with an invisible wizard. you'd lift invisibility and get trashed. (or get improved invisibility -- dunno if it exists in the game -- should be hey it's d&d 3.5)
