Energy absortion

Post by Yann »

I have a slight problem. My party consists of minsc, Anomen, Yoshimo, Valgyar and Jaheira.

At one point in the game (I cannot remember when) Minsc, Anomen, Yoshimo and Valgyar had their energy absorbed. They do not seem to have any weaknesses, and all their skills are ok .The only problen is that their experience levels have been nulled, and they cannot gain new experience. I have tried to use spells and scrolls and potions but nothing seems to work. What is the solution to this problem. Do I have to bring them to a shylock or something ?

Thanks

Some creatures like Vampires or Shades can drain levels with their attacks. You can use your clerics spells Lesser Restoration/Restoration or cure your party members at a temple.
To protect yourself in the future, use Negative Plane Protection (level 4 Cleric Spell) or items like the Amulet of Power or the Mace of Disruption+2.
There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.

Well, welcome to the boards, first of all. ;)

Now, to address your problem:
What do you mean by 'having their energy absorbed'?

This sounds like they've had levels drained from them by creatures like vampires, which requires the use of restoration spells. If that is the case, only clerics (and high-level paladins with sufficient Wisdom in the expansion) can cast Lesser Restoration (Clerics, at higher levels, can cast a more powerful version). Anomen will most likely be able to cast that unless the level draining has prohibited him from casting 4th level Cleric spells. In case he can't, your best bet is to go to a temple, and have Restoration cast on whoever needs it (at least on Anomen, so that he can memorize the same spell and save you money).

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the message board.

I don't know what you mean when you say that your characters had their "energy absorbed", but I see one possible explanation. The game has a built-in limit of 2,950,000 experience points. When your characters acquire that much experience, they stop gaining experience points and stop advancing. We refer to this as the "experience cap" or "level cap". The game designers made it that way to preserve "game balance", which is a hotly contested topic. If you want to remove the experience cap, you can do it by downloading an unofficial patch, which is readily available. (I'm using it myself.)

By the way, "shylock" is slang for "a heartless or demanding creditor". So I'm not sure what you mean when you ask if you need to take your characters to a shylock. Some people consider the term to be an insult (along the same lines as "loan shark"), and I just wanted to mention that.

Thanks for your help. Sorry about using shylock, I meant a healer or a wizard.
