Nalia

Post by davfra »

I`ve just finished at the circus and have Aerie with me. I`ve seen Quayle and been to the Copper Coronet and accepted Nalias quest. I believe I have to go to the City Gates for access to her keep. Every time I try, I get there, the `You have been waylaid....`.Keeps coming up. Every time it`s with so many baddies that I can`t get there.
Is this trying to tell me that I shouldn`t be here at this stage in the game?
Cheers

No, those encounters are mostly random. Try going to another area and from there to the City Gates.

You are always waylaid the first time you leave the city with Jaheira in the party this is part of the Harpers quest. I think you are also waylaid the first time you go to the city gates this is to insure that the party has sufficient magical weapons to face enemies outside the city in the off chance you didnt visit any shops before attempting to leave the city..... this is just my theory.

In that case, I`ll keep trying. I assume I`m right in thinking the d`arnise keep is the Nalia quest and I get there from the city gates?
Cheers guys

Yes, it is.

There are several "you are waylaid" encounters pre-programmed in. Each occurs before your first visit to certain areas. FWIW, I suggest resting up and being in top form before exploring.

like you guys said its a randome encounter, there for its got nothing to do with who you are or what are you going to do(unless you realy do have jahira then if you are attacked by bandits witha sick man, thats part of her quest)

if you get one of those just beat them up, or if you see they are too difficult just run up ahed and exit that screen

No, it's *not* random; guess I wasn't clear on that point. Those "waylaid" encounters are scripted to occur the first time you try to enter specific points. If you try to enter Point B from Point A for the first time and have a waylaid encounter, then quit and restart from Point A, you will find the exact same attackers with identical attributes, spells, and items that turn up after battle.

Euhhm, maybe I am some strange exception...

Almost every time I have Jaheira in my party and head straight for the city gates, or to a Wilderness area, I dont experience those waylaid encounters...it happens quite some time later for me...
Maybe is it because I dont rest before I head off?? Or is it a bug??

Or is it simply a random happening and u guys are wrong with the assumption, that these events occur the first time when heading to the city gates or wilderness :p :D

Party composition doesn't create a trigger. The waylaid encounters are related to moving your first time movement between two specific locations. Wish I'd kept my notes of 'em; I've played through five times, and they always happened in the same circumstances. Once you know where they are, you can successfully avoid those routes until you've added enough party members with memorized spells to deal with 'em.

One of these waylaid encounters is also minor quest-based. Again, it occurs the first time you run between two areas in the city. Only this time, you find a very sick man being harassed by bandits. Once you've dispatched them, the man turns out to be severely poisoned beyond your party's ability to help. He asks that you bring him to the Harper's base in the Docks area, where you'll receive a minor reward.

I know about the events (and spoiler) that should happen fable, but when I move from Waukeens Promenade to the City Gates those waylaid happenings dont occur, it happens like 4 or 5 gametime days later...

Or did I already gave an answer to my own question by saying that I move from Waukeens Promenade to City gates instead of from the Slums to the CG....

Ill check right now. Jaheira is always in my party anyway :p

I think it's "semi-random", there are some encounters that happen always (the one with Suna Seni, one with two Slavers and a bunch of Orogs and the one with the poisoned man), although they do not happen the same time every game. The encounter with 2 Slavers and some Orogs mostly happens when I travel from the City Gates to the d'Arnise Keep, but I had it happen on other occasions. It is possible that it happens on your first travel out of the city or it could have something to do with the Copper Coronet quests. The encounter with Suna Seni (where you get Arbane's Sword +2) usually is on one of your first inner city travels, though it seems not to be dependant on the area you come from or go to, it just happens relativly early in the game.

I just tested, I went from the Slums to the City Gates.

I was waylaid by enemies, and the enemies where a mage a druid a strong archer with some heave armor and 3 weak ones...
They were slavers, the group that attacks you first...

This makes me believe that this event only occurs when traveling from the Slums to the CG.

The event with the harper guy however, didnt happen
From which I went was irrelevant, it just didnt occur yet....

Yep. You might want to write 'em down, so if you get sucked into playing a second game, or a third, or a fourth... ;) In any case, you'll note just when to be prepared. That's admittedly cheesy, and it removes an element of genuine surprise from the mix, but it's worth considering.

It will happen within the city premises. Maybe on the way to the City Gate from one area, the name of which I forget. Damn. :(

I tried ten times and got nailed everytime. Fighting was useless. I was vastly outnumbered. I tried from different locations but without success. In the end I got there via the Bridge district.
But I decided to go back to the Bridge District anyway. I have Jaheira in my party.
Cheers
