Saemon stole the silver blade, and the people he stole it from want it back. A war party will eventually track you down (probably when you least expect it). For some strange reason, they have the silver hilt. If you take both pieces to Cromwell, he can assemble the Silver Sword for you.
BTW, the leader of that war party is a character created by a fan who won the chance to have his character appear in BG2. He's pretty funny.
Thanks VonDondu. Last run thru, I gave them their darn piece, rather than fight them. Not this time tho... (These are the same guys who "help" me get out of the illithid dungeon, right?)
Idioteque
I have only played females (my 6 yr old daughter insists). So I didn't pay attention. I'll let you know when I run into them again.
Thanks all - still slogging thru illithid dungeon - I hate these guys worse than dragons and the Demi-lich.

The leader of those Githyanki kept calling my main male character a female. Does he always call you by the opposite sex or is this a bug?
He talks to whoever is closest, so if you have a female in your party, he might be talking to her. You can tell which party member an NPC is talking to by the little icon on their portrait that looks like a pair of lips.
The problem is, the dialogue choices imply that it is your main character that is replying. I guess this is a sort of bug, but it happens in a lot of cases. Sloppy scripting is the real culprit.
If your having trouble with illithids remember that Chaotic commands can save the day... Potions of genius can as well so your protected by their annoying psi blasts and int drain. Also summoned skeletons are dead and can't be affected by their intelligence drain... A lvl 15 summoned skelli is a skelli Warrior... 90% magic resistance and a big sword
Tact is for people not witty enough to be sarcastic
Finally made it thru Illithid hell - had anomen clear off room for 5 summon skeles and kicked booty (that and cleared the "brine room")
But back to the Silver sword - I ran into Semyaz (sp) (after Illithid dungeon) and slaughtered him and his thugs - but No silver hilt. Do I run into someone else looking for their blade? In my previous game (the one stuck in WKeep and the demons level - but that is another thread )
We escaped underdark and went to promenade and were rudely accosted by a horde of giths. As I said earlier, I gave them their sword - but I think I'll just keep it this time .
Thanks all

Semyaz and his group do not have the hilt. The hilt is on the group that approaches after you leave the underdark ( the ones you say you gave the sword to last time.
The vorpal effect is nice, but otherwise, it's pretty lame - in the higher end of ToB, especially with tactics, most of the creature's you'd care about the effect working on are immune to it...grr...
After all, otherwise it's just a +3 sword
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.
Or could I keep it and rack up EXP every time the Giths try and take it away (or do they even try? - I have no idea, only my 2nd time playing.)
Or do they just slink away like the curs they are !! I mean, just how holy an item is this to them. How many warriors are willing to "give it up" to get it back.
Basically, I got it. They don't. Come an' get it.
Bwaaa Haa Haa !!! (Sometimes it DOES feel good to be bad)

Sorry to spoil your fun, but once you fight the Githyanki for the hilt, they don't come back. And it won't work as a money-making venture, because you need to spend money in order to get the hilt and sword forged into a usable item.
But it is still a pretty good sword for most of the game. It just doesn't work on bosses and some higher-level monsters, which is what nephtu is talking about. I am finding it quite useful in Watcher's keep, before going to Suldanesselar.
How well does it work in Watchers?? My last party got stuck/butchered on the same level where you can find the Purifer LSword - I can't kill the main race of creature - they just gang up on me and...Th Th Th Th That's all folks. I have a more magic-centric party this time (last one had/has more tanks)
Thanks
