Balor Bugged?

Post by Abovelife »

I've been playing the game for awhile. I got to the end boss before the patch even came out. Now, with the patch I can actually make all the magic Items I need. Any how, I've fought the Balor at least 5 times and always lose. My 10th level Barb Half Orc with a a Str of 30(when raged and +6 Str Gloves) has only hit the Balor three times. Out of all of the fights. I've used two separate swords both +3, two handed and one handed. this was while I was hastened. So I'm sure he tried to hit at least 50 times. I just think this is BS. A Balor in D&D is an AC 30 but a 10th level barb with str of 30 should hit more then 3 out of 50 times. I mean simple math... his Primary is a +20 and is secondary hit is +15. I think the game should roll at least 10 or higher 40 % of the time. So have any of you reached the balor and actually won? and what did you try to beat him? I think the Melee combat is just messed up with him.

Been there done that. Took me a very long while to come up with a working solution. The problems I had were that everyone in my party got fear/charmed regardless of spell protection or casting, i.e. calm emotions etc. Basically summoned lots of non charmable dogs, hammers etc. Buffed all my people up to the max and then took out the effrits with ranged attacks. Then cast invisable on my entire party, snuck up and positioned all around the balor and let rip. Still had to do it several times and had to ressurect three of my party at the end. This was at level 10 +3 weapons (no pally-might have helped against the fear). If you get the skull and all the gems (thief can pick pocket off of the balor for the fourth one) whatever you summon is vastly weaker than what you fight (thought this was slightly unfair, but can see the reason). The Balor is by far the hardest enemy in the game. Even spelled up etc with top notch weapons including sword almost as good as prince Thrommel's still only hit about 1 out of ten usually for nought damage<lol>; both fighter tanks with 25 str due to crafted gloves +6.

Hope this helps and you can do it.

How to take down the Balor

Hey this was easy and the only damage I took was from my own cleric! (well and a few quasits). First of all cast Web off the screen and capture the Balor and hopefully the 2 Efreeti. The rest is up to preparation. All you need to do is beef up on magic missile and melf's acid arrow. I actually scribed 10 scrolls of MAA and needed 9 plus 2 from my spells. I maxed out my first level spells on Magic Missle. For some reason, MR doesn't matter with Melf's acid arrow. It hit almost flawlessly and does damage every round. (3 Rounds at level 10) After everyone stopped running away it was easy. I just protected my Wizard with the melee characters from quasits (and my charmed cleric). The Balor was stuck in the web the whole time and couldn't do a thing but die slowly. Keep in mind it takes a while to keep casting these, but it sure beats dying over and over.

You know web and entangle are bugged in toee, enemies are supposed to try to break free, but they don't. Killing the balor is nigh impossible without using exploits in the game, although I've heard it can be done.

Temple of Elemental Evil is the most bugged piece of trash ever produced

Yes, Balor is bugged. But not just in AC. I actually should have killed him, but his hitpoints went from "nearly dead" to "null." And when we kept attacking, the game crashed. I believe that this game is impossible to beat. Has anyone in the history of this game ever beat the game without cheating? For those who want to know how to defeat Balor, this is what I did: Go in with a party full of characters whose stats are all 18, except for your half orc, who should have a strength of 20, and your elf, who should have a dex of 20. For those who don't know this hack, I can refer you to some instructions later. Get everyone up to level 10, give them all some gauntlets to increase their strength or dexterity by 6. Bring Skorp along too, and give him some +6 strength gauntlets too. Defeat all of the other bosses first, and summon them to fight against Balor, summon all of the other creatures and elementals that you can too. Get your paladin, fighter, or barbarian specialized in his specific weapon, and give him a +3 weapon. Get your healer to stock up on Heal scrolls and Heal potions--the kind that heal 110 hitpoints at a time. All of my characters had near-30 AC, and my warrior types all had above-20 attack bonus. Go in with all that, and you might damage Balor for 2 or 3 damage per hit, and your summoned demons might hit more often for a little more damage, but you should stay alive long enough to reach the game-crashing death-of-Balor bug. Here are some other bugs that I discovered during the battle: There's an NPC who you pick up in the elemental planes somewhere, I can't remember his name now, but he thinks that all demons are good creatures, and he refuses to attack. And don't use Protection from Evil on yourself. It's going to block all of the buffs cast by your good-aligned characters. Anyway, I went into battle, and through all of the bugs, we should have beat this guy, but I'm pretty sure that the game is so bugged that it's impossible.
