The thought reading program

Post by Vicsun »

This thing is scary and it certanly freaks the hell out of me. You think of a word, any word at all and it will (probably) guess it after asking you questions

http://y.20q.net:8095/btest

12 questions to guess supernova and 19 questions to guess doorknob

Stupid program - I tried with socks - and it took some 25 guess, and the program said "no" to if it was used by police :D ... tsk tsk tsk, as if they walk around barefooted in their shoes all day :D

I beat it with grass, but it guessed car with only 13 questions. It did have an advantage since the fourth question was "Does it have 4 wheels". :D

I also won with "snail", but the computer guessed it after 28 question.

It didn't get mitre saw. I would have accepted 'saw' as a guess but it never went down the road of power tools. It did guess soldering iron after 20 questions but that's not close.

Well, it took 19 questions to get ceramic tile...

but my wife beat it with mailbox, though the program didn't agree with several of her answers... ;)

I find it rather telling of the average SYM mentality that most of us viewed this thing as something to be beaten or outsmarted, rather than marvelled at for its level of A.I. and ability to learn... :o

It is not that complex a program.

It can be programmed rather "easy" (okay - relative), there is no need for AI to be involved.

All that is needed is to ask questions based on the answers that have been given in the past and then eleminate paths to items it know, depending on the answer that people gives. :)
That is not AI - that is simple elemination of branches in a tree :)
