A gamer's confession...

Post by Galuf the Dwarf »

Hi, my names Galuf, and I have a character-creating problem.

Seriously, when it comes to the Baldur's Gate series, or Icewind Dale 2, or even The Temple of Elemental Evil, I've got a creative sense that can't be quelled. I practically can't stop creating characters 90% of the time. I finally beat BG1 earlier this year (and there was much rejoicing. Yaaaaay), and so I uninstalled that. The thing is, I have so many good ideas that just don't seem to stop!

One thing that I honestly can commend Troika for in ToEE is the option to delete characters in the party/character creation menu.

What would you all say about all this?

"Hi my name is .... ehhh .... and I restart games all the time."

I do the same all the time - is most RPG orientated games I play - even in MMORPGs :D
I can't count how many times I've restated BG/BG2, but I know the first couple of chapters by hart, even though I've not played it for a while. In DAoC I've deleted 2 characters (one L50 and one L51 (50 is cap, 51 is 50 with 5+ realm ranks)) because I wanted to start another one named Xandax on my server :D

It is a "sickness" :D , but I think it has something to do with wanting to get the most of the game, as fast as possible :) It is a matter of finding your alter-ego in the game, to be comfetable with your choice.

I actually didn't restart NwN more then 3 times or so before I completed it, so it is possible for us to limit it :D

Well, it's not as much that I restart. I just keep making characters. I've got so many of them in BG1 that I have in back-up files right now. My creative impulses just won't stop!!!

Hi, my name is Zel, and I restart all the time. I've only finished BG:SOA seven times, and BG:ToB twice, even though I have made about three dozen characters, and played it non stop the whole first year I had it.

And its the same for most other games, too. Sometimes I'm playing an FPS, and I restart just to change my characters name or appearance. Its horrible.
If I asked, would you answer? Its your problem. Its a deep, deep problem. I have no way to ask about that... I have no elegant way of stepping into your heart without tracking in filth. So I will wait. Someday, when you want to tell me, tell me then. -Bleach

Mmmm, might i suggest saving right before you kill him. then you can simply reload. The starting dungeon gets boring after 40 50 times :D :D :D :D :D

Well - is a mod out there called "Dungeon Be Gone" or something - wich allows you to skip the first dungon. Only modification I have for BG2 :)

Anyone intrested in creating an amonem-be-gone-mod?
Maybe he could explode in a fireball as soon as you speak to him.

But back on topic.
In BG1 i started a fighter and finished it with him cause someone suggested first playing a plain fighter. For BG2 i started an halforc fighter with bows (but i was planning months in advanced while waiting for the game to be released).

But now i must have created hunderds of BG2 characters. And as soon as i buy a new RPG (for example morrowind) i start over and over again untill i'm finally.....................not realy happy and start over again. And in the case of morrowind i got bored with the beginning and gave up on the whole game. (more of a BG/IWD kind of RPG player)
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Hello, my name is Corsair, and im a restarter. I have the sickness 2 :( I must have restarted BG:2 and Icewindale over a hundred times each, just to see what chars I like the best. I must have made 200 chars or more :( I havent even finished IWD or BG:2 b/c I restart when im halfway through the game :( Im almost done w/IWD but im at a such hard part, that I find it hard just to play it anymore :( (as you can see, my condition makes me very sad) Fable suggested that I play PS:T before I play NWN, but I dont know if i'll ever even finish PS:T. Ill probably end up unistalling it and then later re-installing it. The only RPG I have ever played from start to finish was, um...... Well, I dont think ive EVER finished any RPG except Ogre Battle 64 (if that counts as an RPG) Alas, it seems I am uncurable

Well I take a long time creating my character, mostly I want to try the character to be like me, while also being able to use the cool features in the game (ie. in Morrowind, I wanted to be sneaky, and also to use alchemy, so I chose a Woodelf Assassin, which majors in sneaking stuff w/ a minor in alchemy).

Then I don't really restart to try something else... I more play and play and eventually get attached to my character(s).

Yeah, and adding a poll, some like 'Are you a restarter? How many times do you reset characters before finishing an RPG?'

I'm a restarter as well. My sad condition begin on fallout, where I tried to play starting from every damn profession... sob... and every damn trait...

Then I've played Ultima IX and those letter thingies where driving me crazy... But it only got worst, and unstopable when I've got BG.

I took 7 characters to finish the game for the first time, and a lot more. I used to have 3 partitions on my hard drive, one of them was used to store my bg pc's...

SoA was a little different, but I used every of my ancient char sets to play the game, so I've done it something bout 9 times before reaching Irenicus. Something bout the underdark used to get me nervous bout my thief. My bard. My fighter.

But is that bad?
Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.

Hi, I'm Chanak and I am a restarter. My saved gamed directories on BG2, Icewind Dale 2, and Morrowind quite possibly take up 1/4 of my disk space. And yes, I do this on MMORPGs as well, I have characters on 10 SWG servers. The brief time I played Final Fantasy XI I restarted my character 7 times.

On SWG, I have mastered 16 out of the 32 possible professions with my "main" character...

Help.

Signed,
Chanak, restarter
