Patch question

This is an easy question for anyone. When I download a patch from the internet, do I have to do anything with it? Will it automatically fix everything or do I have to do something else?

The Patch is automatic (I just test it).
- Waterdeep city constrution.

- Shadowdale low level adventure module.

- Rashmare /Thay high level adventure module.
