Hi There...
Just completed Trademeet for the 1000 time, but this time i spoke to a commoner just outside Lord Logan's house, and he said that maybe Lord Logan will name me High Merchant so that he can return to his sister in Riatavin...
Now the question.. Is it possible to be named High Merchant?? I've played through BG a lot of times but I've never been high Merchant...

Afraid not. Nice idea, but let's face it: what would happen then to your quest? Unless, of course, a large man in a black mask shows up some day, waving a sword under your face, intoning, sepulcrally, "I am your father!"

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
This reminds me of something that you can actually do in the game called Planescape: Torment (which offers you a lot more choices than BG2). If you haven't played Torment, this is a SPOILER.
SPOILER
You can take the Silent King's place and rule the Dead Nations if you like. But if you do so, you'll have to stay on the throne forever and you can never leave. Consequently, if you a seat on the throne, the game is over. Naturally.
And mind you, this is less than halfway through the game.
