BGII as movie...

Post by scully1 »

This has come up in another thread, but that one is reserved for philosophical debate on the merits of the male NPCs' physiques ;) so I figured I'd start this new thread...

I would absolutely LOVE to see BGII as a film, it would be incredibly awesome...however, there is just one enormous problem -- the main character!! With so many classes and races to choose from, how would they decide what to make the PC? And there's no way you could satisfy all the gamers, because everyone would likely want their favorite PC to be portrayed. For example, I would rail if they didn't make the PC a female Undead Hunter, while others would rail if they didn't make him a male half-elven lawful evil kensai/mage...

What do y'all think?... :)

Not to be redundant or anything but here's my visual aid that supports my suggestion that Keith Hamilton Cobb play Valygar. :D (as seen here: )http://www.gamebanshee.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=004152)

The main character in a Baldur's Gate movie would likely be Abdel, the progtagonist from the novels for first appeared in TotSC. It's really a shame since anyone can come up with a better name then Abdel. :p ;)

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I'll stick with my previous opinion that Baldur's Gate, should it become a movie of any kind, would best be suited for animation, whether 2d or otherwise (case in point: the new Final Fantasy movie). This way, the same VO actors/actresses could be used to play the cast of characters ... consistency, people! :D

Although, I wouldn't mind seeing a live-action version. ;)

I am positive it will be some human fighter. That is the best Hollywood can think of these days.

The main character would be human, as any other race would be confusing for people. Also, a person can relate to a human better then a dwarf.

I would love to see BGII as a movie, however there is a possibility it could turn out into a really bad movie (like the D&D one according to critics. I have yet to see that.) and that would give it a bad name. Generally movies based on games are never really popular.

Ok people, if they base the movie off of the books, I will go insane, run out of the house with a fork soaked in gasoline and lit of fire, then proceed to stab the director, producer, and anyone else responsible, in the clavicle before being dragged of to an insane asylum. Those books sucked so much t simply boggles the mind! I could have written a story that was ten times better than that. Heck, a blind squirrel drowning in its own feces can write better than Philp Athens, the authors whose name isn't worhty of being remembered or written in any way, shape, or form. What really irks me is that they let him write a SECOND one after they saw how utterly and irrevocably horrible the first was! My god, that man should be chained to the back of a walrus and thrown off a cliff into a pool made of the blood and agony his writing has caused. This man and his writing are the main reason mandatory sterilization might save our race. I could go on for hours about how I wasted twelve bucks on those books, and how I wasted four hours of my life on them, but then I'd just be squandering more of my time! Everyone do yourselves a favor and never lay your hands or eyes upon those foul abominations! To do so is to subject yourself to endless hourse of agonizing weepeing over the waste of the paper that was used in printing those...things! Those poor trees could have been used in making something useful, like sawdust, or those toilet covers in rest areas! I can only pray that those things shall forever be forgotten in the minds of men, and that their evil shall never again befoul the bookshelves of any being, living or dead!

The game should be the game, nothing more - I really do not want to see BG movie where PC is not an Elf or Half-elf because I 'm certain that main character in such a movie would be human (The reason why I play this game is that MY Protagonist could be Elf or Half-Elf - not a human as I'm )

I think that players that use dwarf/gnome/half-orc as protagonist will agree with me. Just MHO.

@jennabard -- Unfortunately I know you're right about the Hollywood typology.

I think your casting is perfect...except for Geena Davis. Doesn't strike me as the warrior type. Russell Crowe as Anomen? Hmmm...I'm not sure...can't think of any others at the moment...Crowe might have the look but the presence is different I think...

Drew Barrymore as Nalia is a no-brainer, eh? ;)

How about Jim Carrey as Firkragg? :D

Keanu Reeves!!

"Whoah, dude, that's like, a really big sword! Do you like, have to polish it? Want to help me out on my school project? Dude!!"

Actually, Keanu has proven to be a pretty good talent, so apologies. Couldn't resist...

You know who REALLY looks like Valygar? The NBA-star Allen Iverson. Just go check some photos of him and you'll see. I believe many of the chars are based on real life people. Yoshi is like one actor, too. Don't remember name though.
Centuries ago in England........It was an era of chivalry and magic. The evil Prince John unleashed an iron fist of tyranny upon the people. They called out for a champion.........one man answered that call. His name, was Robin Hood. Fearless in his quest for justice Robin Hood challenged the power of the high warlords. While protecting the helpless and the poor. Willing to face death for what he believed, along with the beautiful, lady warrior, Jaheira, the mighty Minsc, and the wise Keldorn. Robin Hood forged a legend that lives on today in............

The Lord of the Rings movies (part one) will be coming out around Christmas. I suspect that elves, half-elves, halflings and dwarves will be represented (and is Frodo, the protagonist not a halfing/hobbit?).
I recognize that movies based on literature have a much higher success rate than those derived from video games. But, even so, it will be interesting to see how people respond to the mythical races. I, for one, cannot even conceive of fanstasy without including elves and such.
