Level Advancement Issues

Post by SexyPaladin »

Hey every1,

If someone could shed some light with these problems, i will give you a cookie :)

Problem 1:
When the time comes for a character of mine to gain a new Feat due to level advancement, sometimes some feats are marked with yellow and others arent. Also sometimes it ONLY allows me to obtain a yellow one and no others. What does this mean?????

Problem 2:
When i go to try and change my spells, theres always a yellow box in each spell level that i can only fill with a yellow colored spell (the spells that i can fill these boxes with are Daze, Charm Person, Sleep), again wha???

Please help kind and generous folk!

The feats highlighted in gold/yellow are "bonus feats." A fighter, for example, gets a bonus feat at levels 1,2,4,6,8, and 10. However, these extra feats have to be selected from a smaller list, hence the yellow colored feats. The bonus feats are still normal feats and can still be selected during normal character advancement at levels 1,3,6, and 9 (all characters gain feats at those levels). I know the monk gains a couple of bonus feats as well, and the same rules apply to him; you have to pick a yellow one.

As for the spell selection; I don't have a clue. My sorceress has never had a situation like that, so I'm assuming that is a wizard thing. Since I've not played a wizard (I think they are too restricting), I'm afraid I'm useless on this one. On second thought, maybe the yellow spells have something to do with a school of magic that you specialized in. Again, it is a wizard thing, but I think that may be the issue.

Yes, I found it in the manual on page 122.

"...During character creation, wizard characters can specialize in one school of magic. The wizard can prepare one extra spell of this school per spell level each day and..."

It looks like all of the spells that you mentioned as being yellow are from the Enchantment school, so I'm assuming you specialized in that.

I hope some of that was helpful.

P.S. I like chocolate chip. :)

For the wizard spells, I didnt check in the game if it work like that, but it should be this.

Wizard can specialize in a school of magic, and gain 1 extra spell per level of that school only. So the extra spell you gain, MUST be of that school...

Yet...I have no specialist wizard under my control in the game, so I dont know for sure, but should be the reason.

Well this is gonna seem odd then i guess, because my wizard specializes in Conjuration, yet, all the spells that are in yellow are spells from Enchantment. Any clues???

if the yellow spells are all from the Enchantment school, then during character creation you must have chosen to specialize in enchantment---at least that's how it's sposed to work. my wiz worked that way anyway.

choosing the feat "spell focus conjuration " isn't the same as specializing in it at character creation--don't know if this is the prob or not.

sometimes the slots autofill on you and the wrong school gets a spell in the yellow slot, but that's pretty easy to spot
