I have had this problem, which has turned out to be a real irritating thing to say it in gentle terms.

Is there a way to get your characters to stop attacking an enemy?

I had this problem mainly on Tatooine, where I would get ambushed by sandmen and barely killed them, but while the fight was on, a group of "animals" (can't remember the name, quite tough) would be near, and even though my characters were half dead, they would rather run to their death when attacking those things, instead of running away.

Is there a way I can stop them from doing that?

Nope. You can't turn party AI off, and it's impossible to retreat from a battle. Whee. In cases like this, though, you can try pausing the game after the sand people go down, then quickly switching to your idiot NPCs and cancelling their combat action. With luck, they'll stop. More likely than that, they'll just initiate another combat action when you return to your PC.

I too had some problems with my party recklessly attacking whoever they wanted. You could of course turn on solo mode and leave them in a good distance but then if the fight does break out, party members will just stand there staring at the sun... But in your case try attacking from the east (from the direction of the wrecked speeders) instead of west where those wraids are running up and down.
My real problem however with the party members was that I could not make them attack one target in the same time(if enemy attacked from two sides I could not make them stay at one side and got separated). Or if I give them some orders than switch to another char, they will forget all about the issued orders and follow their own driving me mad.....

Actually, you can escape. Pressing B will get you out of combat mode. Make sure to switch chars (black button), and do it to all 3. Then masta speed your way away from Dath Bandon's scawwwy lightsaber.

Except that doesn't stop them from immediately reengaging.

Correct. But once you've left the area, you're safe. Gives you a chance to heal up and repick chars. if u need to.
