Cant get past rancor at beginning - need help - spoiler

Post by DrAwesomePhD »

Well, the rancor at the way begginning (2 hours into the game for me) i cant get past him. Ive spent like an hour trying different things, and i get him to go sniff the pile of corpses but nothing ever happens, and the notebook says lure him to something lethal and i cant find anything lethal first of all and i cant lure him anywhere but the pile of corpses. Can anyone please help me! Ive ended up hurting myself by accidently hitting F4 instead of F5 just before i was killed , so my load game is me getting eaten by rancor with 2 teammates down, and i had to go to the autosave way back :( anyway, need help. Thanks.

The corpse acts as a container, which means you can put things into it as well as remove 'em. If you put in several bombs, they'll explode and kill the rancor when it approaches.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Took me a while to get past that one as well. I kept talking to my partners, especially Mission, to find a suggestion as to what would be lethal for the Rancor and I kept wandering around the sewers looking for some kind of poison.

I finally had to break down and check the walk through to get past this one.

You can also kill it the old fashioned way by chucking grenades at it, if you like. Takes 5-7 depending on your luck and how often it makes its reflex save. You actually get more experience for this.

It should only take you one frag grenade in the corpse pile to kill it . In the Xbox version, there are already 2 frags in there, so just add smelly stuff. If you decide to do it the old fashioned way as Armi suggests, be sure you are on solo mode and then chuck the grenade and run back to cover, repeat. If you try to stand there he will eat you. You get more Experience points the sneaky way, though.
They are, in fact, expressions inspired by demons and they go forth to the kings of the entire inhabited earth to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty. And they gathered them together to the place that is called in Hebrew Har-Maged'on - Revelations 16:14,16

the first time I did this with my first party... I actually just ran right by him..
I didn't realize I was supposed to kill him..he was facing the other way so I started running and I was through the door before he reacted..

I just kept tossing grenades at it, and then stepped back into the small corridor, where he obviously couldn't come after me. After 8 or 9 grenades it was finished. ;)
