Jan's Armor
Is there a way to change Jan's armor so that it looks like a robe?
(Robes look great on him)

I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
shouldnt be too hard, just extract the armor with shadowkeeper so it goes into the override folder (if it says to overwrite say NO and go into the override file and copy the file onto desktop).
Then you just open it up in IEEP and fiddle armor with it, then place the file back into your override file, you might want to save a copy of the original first however.
If i had bg installed id do it for you now (ea technical support are screwing me around telling me to uninstall everything). I might install it later, if i do ill do it for you and attach the itm file to this thread.

That's the way to go:
Run Shadowkeeper and search for the armor, then hit "Extract" and the file NPARM.itm will be created in your override folder.
Now run Infinity Engine Explorer and use the Item Maker to open NPARM.itm.
On the right side is a dropdown menu called "Paper Doll" which is currently set to "Leather Armor". Change that to Robe Type #1, #2 or #3 and save the file back to your override folder. That should do it, I'll test if it works when I have the time

There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.
Ok, here's the modified armor. I had to use WinZip so I could use the the forum's upload function, so you'll have to unzip it into your override after you've downloaded it.
The appearance is currently set to Robe Type #3, if you don't like that you can change it the way I described above, or I can do it for you

I had no idea it was so simple to edit an item! Finally my Blackblood looks like a Club on the inventory screen instead of a Mace! And the Robe of Vecna has a hood, looking far cooler than before. Thanks!
About the Robes, I have found the place where to edit colors. However, which color is represented by which number? If, for example, I want to make a completely black robe, how to edit?

If you have IEEP, theres also a "Known Color Gradients for Baldur's Gate".
You can find it when you do the following:
Change Equiping Effects -> Set Item colours -> Click to Edit Parameters -> Colour gradient Scheme (at the top)
WARNING: It is in hexidecimal but just renumber it in decimal starting from 0.
Hope this helps

Thanks Sytze, I have now found the known colors! However, I have no clue how these hexidecimals work... How do I renumber them?
1Bh for example is silver, how do I come to that conclusion? (If this takes a matematician to understand, I can tell you right now that there is no need to explain...)

I can't find anything that even looks like Item Maker, a dropdown menu on the rightside, or something called "Paper Doll"
Have you downloaded and installed IEEP then?

Did u print out the colour scheme??
Id advise you to do that.
And then just start from the beginning (so "Red Tinted Black"=0 "Dark Bronze"=1 "Dark Gold"=2 "Light Gold"=4, etc. So your 1Bh silver would be number 27 I think)
Just keep numbering till the end.
However, if you ask me how to get different colours of silver from the same number.....I really have no idea. Maybe you should check a suit of shiny

I have "Infinity Explorer v0.75" from the ScourceForge. Is that the correct one?
You can use that to extract items from the game.
To edit those extracted items you need:
Infinity Engine Editor Pro v1.0.9 Build 40 (its 2.27 MB)
This can be found here:

Alot of people prefer that DLTCEP that can be found over at http://www.team.bg (do a search on the forum) but i prefer IEEP any day, takes a little getting used to, but you get a better understanding of things.

I want to change to color of the robe of vecna to either red or blue instead of that brightgreen.
How do i do this exactly?
what i did was to look in near infinity for the color schemes of the robe of neutral arch magi...then copy them down, and editied the color value of the robe of vecna...
its a slider, so once you have the 3 sets of numbers written down, its easy to make the robe of vecna look like the robe of archmagi...
the best part of doing it this way is that by simply changing the color scheme of the paper doll for your character, the robe will look different, with the grey trim of the robe of neutral archmagi, or the gold trim of the robe of good archmagi, or the red trim of the robe of evil archmagi...

Could check this link How to Use the Color Gradient. But the easist way is to look in the IEEP folder in the start menu, and you should have a file under help files named ColorGradients.mht.

You take the number you want... lets say Pure Black (4B) open windows calculator, switch it over to scientific mode and then click "hex", then click 4B then click "Decimal", as you can see 4B in hex = 75 Decimal, thus equalling black.
Course.. i may have screwed up there. I dont use any color that isnt allready on an item (basicly i open it up, look at the part number and the color value and remember the number, copy it into mine) simply because i was told that some colors will crash the game.
EDIT:
Oh one last thing, if you open the set item color thing it will tell you the location part numbers in its own little mini explanation, i cant recall what these are off of the top of my head, but if you import an example of the item you want you should be able to figure out what does what.
