Hi, everybody
Looking at the subject, you guys might think that this post is a total rehash of just a powergamer who wants to get multiple strongholds. Well, that is partly true. I'm asking this question for powergaming purposes, but it's not old and done-to-death stuff, I hope.
I've read many of the posts and know that you can get multiple strongholds if one of your dualed or multi- classes are either fighter or mage. However, what about the other classes? I was wondering, specifically for the ranger-dualed-to-cleric class.
No, don't just stop reading here and say, "it's impossible, you can't do it". I was wondering about a different way of going about this: start the stronghold-related quests while still in your first class (in this class, umar hills and the ranger; as well as the unseeing eye quest). Ok, don't finish the unseeing eye quest, but finish umar hills quest, which should give you the ranger-protector status and the ensuing quests. Then dual class into a cleric, and go finish the unseeing eye quest. Supposedly, you should be able to get your cleric quests after that, right?
So, just wondering, does that work? I'm only in Chapter 6 in my first run through the game, so I have no idea. Maybe somebody has done it already? or maybe is willing to try out this theory of mine?
I know that this is probably not the most efficient way for dual-classing (staying too long in the first class), but I think some people would do anything to get those multiple strongholds.
Anyways, thanx for listening, and I would appreciate any feedback. If this is common knowledge, then I apologize for being so presumptuous. If not, I hope that this can increase the amount of fun some of you can have while playing BG2.
Dual-Classing and Strongholds (Something New, I hope)
I think it does not work. A dual class character always gets a stronghold of his ORIGINAL class. An example: A ranger/CLERIC gets ranger's stronghold, i.e., Umar Hills. Even if you are a cleric now, you will not be offered the cleric's stronghold at all. Thus, it does not matter when you dualled. It does not matter whether you are a ranger or ranger/CLERIC. Umar Hills. Period.
I would like to emphasize that my experience in this field is almost none. Perhaps some dodging, I don't know about, is possible. An example: the fighter's stronghold implicitely supposes a MALE (see Nalia's talk after clearing de'Arnise Hold). What happens if you have a FEMALE fighter? And what about dual class female kensai/MAGE and so on? I don't know.

you can only get 2 strongholds if you're a dual fighter/<other class> (don't know if it also applies to multiclass)
And only if you do the Keep-quest - and when Naila asks you to take over the keep - you say no, then she'll stay behind in case you change you mind.
Then you can get the stronghold for your second class - and then go back to Naila and accept the keep.
For this to work you fighter-class have to be active (for instance fighter lvl. 7 then your other class have to be lvl. 8 or greater) otherwise Nalia will not accept you as a fighter.
This is the only way I know of - that you possible can get 2 stongholds.
