Toughest fight in the game?

Post by Locke Da'averan »

I performed a search and i didn't find anything, but i'm almost positive someone has asked this before, but as the title says:
What do you think is the toughest fight in the game you faced on your first time through? (every fight included)

I think the toughest fight for me was against the 6 vampires in Windspear hills dungeons... i had to reload that game about 15 times, before i got it through with acceptable losses Image

It is between the Mind Flayers and Balor.
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

I tried the Twisted Rune very early - too early - and had no chance at all. When I leveled up a bit and returned it was pretty easy (OK, I'm on the second highest difficulty - not the highest) - and I think it goes for most quests, if you are pretty high level and know something of yoru competitor BG2 is rather easy.
I also did Kangaxx rather early - but late enoguh to have the Mace of Disruption upgraded to +2. Got the lucky "one-hit-death" with that one, so I never experienced the difficulty there.

This is going to sound really wimpy, but for me, one of the toughest fights of the game has to do with Valygar.

::::spoilers::::

After I picked up Valygar, I headed back to Athkatla to his house, and when I entered, there were a whole bunch of armed guards and I think two cowled wizards who immediately attacked me at close range upon entering his house. To make matters worse, if you take Valygar in with you, he turns hostile too! I don't know exactly why this happened, but I had to reload this fight several times and finally won with one PC left standing, on the upper floor (I had to leave Valygar outside for the whole fight in order to save his life.) I used the rod of resurrection, but it was a very very tough battle, especially for my level at the time (Chapter 2).

hmm kinda depends on who you have with you... my solo monk had a heck of a time against that stupid gnoll in underdark with the +4 harlberd that did all kinds of crazy additional damage...how every my solo sorcerer killed him without ever getting hit.

I would have to say Balor is the toughest fight cause there no way to weaken him or soften him up...its a straight up brawl with a heck of a powerful demon immune to just about everything you can through at him.

it definitely depends on what character you are fighting with. my original berserker could whip the crap out of liches, balors, etc., but two hits from a mindflayer and he would die.
I would be a serial killer if i didn't have such a strong distaste for manual labor

If you try em to early .... the group on the second floor of the Den of the Seven Vales. Thats one tough dwarf!

i agree, the group above the den of the seven dales killed off my party 3 times early, so i left em and came back in the later chapters.........

I thought the twisted rune was the toughest, i didn't have skeleton warriors at the time, and my main character was a frontline fighter (i tried it in chapter 2) it took me numerous tries to succeed. In a seperate game though, when i had a mage capable of summoning skeleton warriors, it was cake.

i also thought that the battle in the zombie town in unsseing eye quest was tough. i went in thinking i'd just be fightin some easy undead and a lich, several greater mummys and bow wielding skeleton warriors showed up. that one hurt.
