thieves guild and codebook

Post by thousandfrac »

with the character i've spent most time with, i didnt at first join the thieves guild. never occured to me when i started playing that i might like to be a member of all of the guilds. i'm head of the fighters and long since past doing the codebook quest for Fire-eye and i'm pretty sure thats what is stopping me joining the thieves guild now. they tell me that they have their standards and i do not meet them and i'm pretty sure theres no way it can be my attributes and skills, those are all maxed out pretty much.
is there some way i can fix this in the game? or is there a console code to fix the problem? i'd assume it was a value i would have to revert back to its original value

I think both guildquests collide with eachother, eventually. As a member of the fightersguild you have to kill someone who is a member of the thievesguild. When you've done that, the thievesguild probably won't accept you as a member.

i stopped doing the quests you get from the agressive fighters guild members that have you killing innocent people and thieves guild members, but i'd done the code book quest already. and that stops them letting me in. what i want to know is if there is a way to get them to like me again, or a value i can edit in the console

You can become head of both Guilds, and work around all the conflicts, mainly by double-checking all of Eydis Fireeyes's Quests with some high-ranking Fighter's Guild dude in the Ald'Ruhn (I think) - Perseus (maybe? w/e --- forgotten his name & location) - but he's another major Fighters Guild Questgiver -

but if you are also in the Thieves Guild, he gives alternatives on your Eydis quest instructions--- or work-arounds on all of the Fighter's Guild quests that conflict with the Thieves Guild. Eydis I think is one of the chief "bad guys" corrupted by the Coumantong, and he knows it and so he gives you more info... a sub-quest - cleaning up the corrupted Fighter's Guild:--part of the story plot :D

If you are only in the Fighter's Guild, I think this sub-plot never appears.

But... sorry thousandfranc - methinx you really do need to join the Thieves Guild early on, before the Code Book quest - which is one that doesn't really conflict -
other than if you *are* in the Thieves Guild.....you can't kill, attack, taunt, bribe her or raise her disposition etc - you can only pickpocket and under Chameleon spell.

When I did it, being so early in the game and me so weak - took me about 20 tries to get that code book by pickpocketing! (Thats why I remember it so well!)
Must have raised my Sneak skills 15 points in trying to complete just that one Quest :D

Cheers -
Rain :)

only found out there were conflicting quests after i'd done the codebook one. maybe i did some others. blah. i did the good ending thing for the fighters guild but i never joined the thieves guild.
guess i'm going to have to find the value and change it back to how it was before i killed people heh.

thanks
