Killing Calo Nord(spoilers)
Killing Calo Nord(spoilers)
Well, when you first meet Calo Nord in Javyars Cantina on Taris, it's possible to start a fight with him. Usually when he counts "one...two.." I leave him alone. But this time through I decided to see what happens....and he whupped my a$$.
But it must be possible to kill him there, perhaps with cheats. That or you get him down to a certain amount of health and he's no longer a target.
Anyone know what happens with this? There are cutscenes with him in later, so I'd geuss it'd be impossible. If it is possible....you could get some cool Calo Nord battle armour whilst still on Taris......

It's impossible, period. It would be like you killing Malak during the encounter on the Leviathan and saving Bastila.

I already thought so. I don't like this sort of things...they are flaws of the game and story.
If you play a P&P RPG and you bring out your NPC in the beginning while he is supposed to be in final battle...ALWAYS have a back-up plan. For the sake of (the feeling) of reality he has to be mortal and not invulnerable.
(I couldn't find the right words at this time to explain my point, but I hope you get it )

You know, they could have made him lvl 10 or 15 and the player character (level 2-3 meeting him for that first time) would be able to do absolutely nothing to him (while still having him mortal). However, the developers knew that sooner or later (usually sooner) someone would type in a god-mode cheat and try to take him down, which would in turn screw up the game for them. That's why they made him immortal, and it has nothing to do with balance or back-up plans.

that would have been better. That way you keep it real and players who use god-mode cheats would screw the story for themselves.
Would be fun if you COULD kill Calo, but only if you use god-mode cheats (because of huge difference in levels) and after killing him a message would pop up:
"Sissy cheater, you just screwed it for yourself" and then the game would crash
That would teach cheaters a lesson

With grenades and things, you could probably take on a level 10-15 Calo in that first encounter if he weren't invincible. If he were mortal, sooner or later some crafty person would kill him legitimately, and I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate the game dying on them for what would appear to be a lack of developer foresight.

Yes, it is a lack of foresight that they introduced Calo at that point, while he plays a vital part later on. But there is no way you can kill a level 15 Calo at that time. Even if everyone tried it over and over again, there is no way you can beat a level 15 Calo with you 2 level 2-3 characters. Just give Calo grenades and **** aswell.
I just don't like these developers tricks of introducing them, but making them invincible...just don't introduce them I say

I can beat Bendak at level 2-3, and I could probably get up to level 5 or so by the time you have your first encounter with Calo... enemy AI can be exploited. Enemies don't deliberately avoid grenades, whereas you can. If you gave Calo grenades, it'd make the fight easier. You'd throw a grenade, he'd throw one, you'd avoid his and he'd take yours square in the jaw.
Obviously they wanted to introduce Calo early on, so that he wouldn't just be a faceless goon by the time you reached Davik. I don't really see how using invulnerability is a big deal. There's no DM in a computer game, so you have to make the conditions of the campaign more airtight. I have no problem with that. If you think invulnerability is bad, don't you think it's odd that you can only attack people who attack you first? They could have made Calo nonconfrontational instead, would you have taken issue with that?

Hmmm...you got a good point with that. But in fact that IS something that bothered me aswell. But if you think about it: you are a Jedi! You only attack to defend yourself, so that does make sense.
I know that it could be a problem if they didn't make Calo invulnerable, but after a few times getting your *** whiped by him it should be clear to you that he can't be killed (not at the lvl your at atm).
In BG2 you can meet Elminster and you can attack him (and probably kill him, but I don't think anyone has ever managed to do that without cheating). If you kill him the whole Forgotten Realms setting would change...but they made it possible anyway. They should have done the same thing in KotOR and if you DO kill him early on, they should have made some sort of back-up story that comes to live then.
