#$%&* companions! (spoilers)

Post by Coot »

I'm trying to enter Castle Karstaag on Solsteim. I took the backdoor and encountered a rickling called Kirsh... who wants to be my bestest friend. Well, at least until I kill all of them nasty grahl.
That is fine by me... but he insists on tagging along! Now either he gets killed by a grahl (they pack a wallop) or accidentally by me because he, like any other companion, gets in my way, like, all the time!
Of course, I had other companions before who had the same annoying habit, but you could tell some of them to wait for you or they had more hitpoints.
I tried to exploit the fact that those companions have terrible pathfinding, but this smurf doesn't want to get stuck!
Also, when someone is with you, you can't sneak up on enemies and backstab. Now I have to match those grahl punch for punch. Not what my sneaky bosmer had in mind.
How do you people deal with these 'friends'?

Whenever possible, I do the quest without their "help", then talk to them afterward. If that's not possible, I try to clear an area ahead of time (escorting a mage). I recall being able to shoot some of the Grahl, the rest I'd rush so they'd hit on my PC and just whack them. Potions are a must.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

There was no way I could avoid the rickling. He's sort of like my brother in law :p .
I just figured that maybe there is a way to make more efficient use of those pesky 'friends'. With 'escorting someone'quests you can usually ask them t wait, clear the area and pick them up afterwards. This Kirsh can't take a hint, however. Like I said, brother in law.

talk to him, tell him to stay put. kill the grahl on your terms. then go back and tell him to follow.
i've never had a companion that when they were following i couldnt talk to them and tell them to wait

if it really bothers you why not just lock him in a room somewhere then do the mission and then go talk to him. that is of course you cant talk to him for whatever reason.

Well, that's just it, I couldn't tell him to stay behind, that dialogue option wasn't there. But I plowed through and with the help of the 'heal companion' it finally worked out.
Thanx anyway :)

That was pretty sharp fake. I had a slave I bought follow me everywhere (she was the only person who accepted me for the blood drinker immortal I am) needless to say she was expensive so I locked her in my bedroom in my Redorn Stronghold. (Yes i said my bedroom, Vamps need love to).
Yes I am aware that I can't spell but you ought to see me juggle.
