What a bummer. Finally (as a Mac person) get ToB. I have for some reason deleted the SoA (probably too long between game release) saved games. Had to start the PC I liked best who had finished SoA as a new PC in ToB. Sacrificed all the really good stuff he had horded (ring of Kaxx, the rune staff (of Magus), pink axe etc). Feeling the loss early on in ToB so detour over to the Watcher's keep to pick up extra items.
Anyway, I find myself in a state of malaise. The dungeon crawl was fun up 'til the last battle. What is my motivation exactly to do battle and not <spoiler to follow>
just simply use the scroll. The snaky things are a pain and I can't motivate to do them then the big guy (more of the same). If there was a shiny weapon/staff/ring it wouldn't be such a problem. But this good for good sake thing is a drag .
End whine. Motivation tips appreciated. Sympathy scrolled on the back of a twenty, thanks

You should probably have put *spoilers* in the title of this post. I am sure fable will be along shortly to correct that.
But as to your question: I am assuming that the roleplaying motivation is not sufficient for you and you want to know why you should do it from a cost-benefit analysis. The best answer I can see is that you get massive experience from killing Demogorgon and his minions. Depending on which path you take, you can also get quite a lot for completing the quest. No, there aren't any particular treasures down at this level, but at a certain point I usually find I have all the gear I need and am more concerned about leveling.
But actually, just using the scroll only partly solves the problem. You will still have a further decision to make after you do so which may allow you to get even more experience:
SPOILERS
If you use the scroll, Demogorgon will point out that you have basically doomed yourself to eternal imprisonment along with him. He then offers to allow you to escape in order to confront Odren. When you do, Odren goes back into the prison to fight Demogorgon. A spirit then appears and offers you the choice between saving Odren or locking them both in there permanently. Going back in and fighting will get you the maximum amount of experience.
