New ToB areas in SoA

Post by Olaf the Hairy »

If Tob is installed and you're playing through from the beginning of SoA, how do you access watcher's keep? I know I've been there like that before but this time round it isn't on my map. Do you need someone to tell you about it? Not interested in doing the quest yet, just want to buy some stuff from the chaps outside it. Perhaps I need a patch or something?

I'm not overly familiar with the areas ToB adds to the SoA map, but there is a new one called the Forest of Tethir - what's there and when should I go there?

I don't know if the Darkest Day has had some affect on my game btw - it was installed but I got rid of it because I found the endless fights with bugbears really irritating. Maybe it hasn't completely gone.

On another random note, I've noticed some random characters popping up - people without names who don't talk to you unless you right click on them and even Kivan from BG1 turning up randomly in the Umar Hills. Is ToB or the darkest day responsible for that?

Watcher's Keep should be available from the very beginning of SoA, and it's the only ToB area that appears in SoA.

The Tethir Forest is nothing new, it appears in SoA if you come back from the Underdark.

I think your problems are caused by TDD, something seems to have gone wrong when you uninstalled it.

Hmm, any idea how I might be able to fix things? I haven't even paid for the assistance of the shadow thieves this time round yet, let alone visit the underdark. That forest shouldn't be there at all...

Actually, all the city areas (bridge, temple etc) have been mobed slightly downwards on the map screen - it's hard to tell if this has happened to the others but if it has then I assume that watcher's keep has gone of the screen as it were. Can this be fixed?

Well the map problem has been solved by replacing the worldmap.wmp file in the corrupted save with the worldmap.wmp file from a save that hadn't had this map bug with the locations moving around. Is this worse than it looks? I don't want to continue playing only for some new problem to crop up as a result of this. I've backed up the original save that I've now altered btw.

Out of interest, what does the baldur.gam file do in each save? I just wonder if replacing that might solve the Darkest Day bug issues.

Those problems with TDD remind me of a funny sentence I read somewhere:

TDD is hardly compatible with itself

Sorry, but I can't help you with the question about the baldur.gam, I can only give you an advice for the future: uninstalling a large (non WeiDU) Mod like TDD will most likely screw up your saves beyond redemption, unfortunately :(

Yes they are probably buggered beyond redemption...I might just restart again before I get too far into the game. I don't think the game is unplayable but the alterations are more than a little troublesome.
