Hello again,

As a stubborn artificer, I like to use the items I craft... I'd like to craft a magic chain for my druid and a pair of magic bastard swords for my fighter, but I miss the masterwork versions of the item.

I found one MW bastersword in Nulb in the Boatmen Tavern, but still miss one MW sword and more important, the MW chain.

Do you have any info about locations for those weapons?

thank you for your help.

Talk to Brother Smyth (the blacksmith) in Hommlet about masterwork items (not through bartering - it's a dialogue string) and he'll make you whatever you need, and of course, you can enchant your masterwork items as you see fit.

u dont need masterwork chain cuz there are 4 ways to get wonderfull elven chainmail that i have found. to upgrade it fully to a +3 it doesnt take any money or experiance. for masterwork itesm, the Circle of Eight mod makes it so the blacksmith in homlet always has masterwork everything

He didn't say chain mail, he just said chain, so he might be referring to the chain weapon. I'm not sure where to find a masterwork version of that. However, I'm not sure if a druid can even use such a weapon. There are many metal items they can't use at all.

Hey

Yes, I meant Spiked Chain. Well noticed, BTW...

Anyhow, regarding druid and metail, the rules are clear: it's all about metal armor, they can use metal weapons (in the game at least: I have the PnP 3rd edition, not the 3.5. In the 3rd edition, the weapons are limited to the druidic selection. But my druid uses a spiked chain with no problem)

Greywulf mentioned th smith in Hommlet, but this implies the patch I guess. I'll try and download it before asking more dumb questions....

Thanks though!

Druid & Spiked chain

Hi, Arachnol

Yes, Druids can use the Spiked Chain, but you'll have to take the Exotic Wpn Feat for it to avoid the -4 penalty to hit.

BTW, there is a magical spiked chain at Temple lvl 3, in the Banshhe's Chest:

Thorned Chains Of Love +1, Holy

You can cast more enchantment upon it to make yourself a
super-weapon.

I made it into this:

Spikes Of Pain +3
Holy +2d6 vs Evil
Axiomatic +2d6 vs Chaotic
Flaming +1d6 fire dmg
Frost +1d6 cold dmg
Shocking +1d6 electrisity dmg

Have Fun!! :D :D :D
 Oh, When all else fail, put the Dwarf up front!

I didn't know that Smyth's masterwork stuff was because of the Co8 patch!

I never played without it, so I guess I just took it for granted.

Sorry for any confusion or misinformation.

That's kind of what I was getting at. The spiked chain isn't on the druid's preferred weapon list. I wasn't sure if they had special restrictions regarding taking other weapons via feats or not.

The spiked chain doesn't seem like a very druidic weapon to me. Some DM's might not even allow it for that very reason. Of course, the computer game doesn't really care about that, and it just allows whatever the coded rules allow.

Personally, I would think that a druid should be using wild shape for combat, but maybe not all druids are designed that way.

Druids and Spiked Chain

I think I somewhat agree about Druids who should fight in Wild Shape and not use metal at all.

But to me it's all a matter of concept: my current group is Neutral with 4 PCs from different alignements and concepts:

LN human cleric of Hextor/fighter
NE elf druid (drow of Lolth if the game would allow it...)
NG half-elf bard/ranger
N human wizard

The spiked chain would be a good choice for the mere concept of the druid in this case...
