There are more threads about this.
I believe someone once calculated for most damage and found out that scemitar and warhammer where the best.

I would definatly go for warhammer. And for the other weapon, flail/katana/lsword also depending on what your other NPC's use.

And welcome to the board.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

For SoA I would not specialize in hammers, because there is only one good hammer in SoA and you'll get it late in the game (and very costly!!), but its main feature is to raise your str. to Godly levels, thus if you wan't to use it put it in your off-hand and give hammers only a *.
In vanilla SoA the best 1handed weapon are: katanas and flails, followed by clubs, l.swords and axes (also there is a nice mace vs. specific monster).
This is for your main hand weapon (where you want mastery), while for the off-hand you should not need more than one *.
The best choice are: hammer, scimitar, s.sword and flails.
As you can see Flails has very good option both for your main hand and for your off-hand so could be one of the best choice.

If you have vanilla ToB then axes and bastard swords are great options.

It is also important to see which NPC you group with, as some of them are already specialized in certain weapons.

Like the fellows before me said, I would recommend that you take the hammer and I have found that a Katana is also a very nice weapon not only because of the whole speed thing but I think that the developers might have remembered that an actual katana is folded 1000 time before being completed and thus making it a very strong, sharp weapon.

That is just a thought and yes, A warhammer and a Katana.

haha, katanas weren't folded a thousand times... they may have a thousand or more layers though (folded 10 times. 2 to the power of 10 = 1024). folding 10 times probably took quite a while, i can't imagine how long a thousand times took.

pls don't take offence, its just that the image of the poor swordsmith folding so many times makes me laugh. :p

I agree there, but the old swordmakers from Japan (THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF) did that and if memory serves me correctly they have to have drawn blood in order to be returned to the sheath.

Please just remember that that is what I have been told.

Yes, I agree, I just can't imagine anyone person these days standing for hours on end folding a piece of metal, just to sell it again. :p

My first playthrough I used Celestial Fury + Flail of Ages, then Later Crom Fayer.

Had hella fun doing it too :p
