You are meant to begin with a new character (it is a completely different storyline)

You can, however, safely import a character, although this expansion will be relative easy, because as Noober stated, it is a different story line and thus made for a new character.

i did not realize that it was a new storyline so i just imported by character from NWN and was trying to figure out why a) i was calling anyone master when i was lvl 19 and b) why in the world i would even bother lookingt at a kobold. needless to say, the entire expansion, which i decided to go ahead and play through for kicks, was EASY!!! somebody got off a finger of death on me that actually killed me (i was shocked). now i can go back and play through as a new character, though and reap the benefits of the prestige classes.
