Oficial Patch bugs

Post by Maja_Luz »

After I Knew the existence of an Official Patch I applied to my game and decided to start a new quest. Well, The Herdsmen courtship quest you cannot complete with this patch. I backup my quest files and reinstall the game, copied them back, and... Bingo... I completed that quest.
:D
Just for you guys know, if have the same problem than me. :D
They say you are wrong, but think... You might be. :)

Hi, Maja_Luz :D

The quest in question is somewhat difficult to complete for all types of parties, but no patch AFAIK, Atari's and the Co8 fan patch, hinders me from completing this quest.

I clearly remember that i did this quest unpatched, (i did all), and upon installing Atari's patch i didn't have specific problems with it.

I have run through the game several times and always manage to comlete this quest.

The Co8 fan patch is highly recommended, as it solves a lot of other bugs regarding loot problems for Npc's and Crafting/Spells Issues.

There may be a time issue in this particular quest, but i dont't know how long it last's exactely.

What i do know is:

1) :
For initiation the Pc must be Female.
2) :
You need to have a + CHA score, or nice "talk skills", ie a female Ftr, Cha 6 wont be able to initiate this quest at all.
3) :
The quest takes time, if initiated before visiting the Moathouse, it's likely to complete after the Moathouse is done.
4) :
You have to visit Eddie several times before completion.
5) :
If your CHA score changes or your diplo/Cha skills increase this quest will go faster. I had my Female Druid increase Diplo skill by 2 with CHA 14 and voila : quest solved.

Eddie, the herdsman's son, have to go through 3 steps :

1) : You are not my Mommy ! Go away !
2) : You remind me of Mommy, you like my dogs ?
3) : Hey! Hmm,.....Mommy ? Let me show you around !

Again note that with -CHA score you wont't get this dialouge.

I dont't remember exactely the words, but he will eventually come along. So i guess that unless your female pc is UGLY , this quest will eventually resolve for you. Have patience. :)

It's not a big deal anyways, you'll likely get from 70 to 150 Xp for each Pc, and neither Lazlo or Eddie will be Npc's unless you enchant them with spells. (Don't do, they are weak!)

And, AFAIK this is the only quest depending on a female character.
They put a gay variant in, and that's nice IMO, but it seems wrong that all you'll miss for NOT having a female Npc is the Herdsman quest.

The npc's are fairly mixed, so why shouldn't the quest's be ? My guess is that there are more male players and i cant't think of any other reason right now, but i think men are more likely to buy games than women in general.

If you have problems, please download the Co8 patch here:

And a big welcome to a new member!!!
Welcome to the forum!!!

Hope that you'll find your answers here. :)

Have Fun :) :) :)

BTW i think this post would be a great post to place ANY other bug encountered AFTER the various patches are installed, both Atari's and Co8's fan patch.

So if any out there play with either one of these installed (or both)
this would be the place to post any new problems within the game.

I will be sure to post my complaints :)

For Glory :) :) :)

...more bugs ? - no problem !

.

the first and one of the most annoying ones:

...no bonus spells for CHA-, INT- and WIS-enhancing items !

and a 2nd and 3rd one - (extreme powergamers will love this):

...the guisarme (2D4 & reach) is treated like a 1-handed weapon !

...you can bring all your stats to 18 when building your PCs !

btw. anyone knows how to change weapon stats ?

....really want a 2-handed katana with reach for my whirlwinding Kensai ! (Kensai = paladin 3 - monk 2 - fighter 2 - rogue 3)

EDIT: one more: crafting spell resistance on armor is also bugged !

Thanks Mulligan for the Welcome.
I have worked with computers for the last 7 years and I really never found anything that doesn't have a bug.

I dont know if is a bug or Atari forgot to check it, but when you have a brand new game with no patches, every NPC that join to your party carries something, if it's money you can move all but one. NPC has 200 golds you can catch 199 golds. For the weapons just go to the Black Smith in Homlet and while your selling or buying, transfer the items to your party's bag. They say at home I'm chetating. :D

Well after you aplly the official Atari Patch, you can do it anymore. :(

I havo done good, and this Forum is great.

You all be nice. :p

Ok i just got this game yesterday and just got to grips with all the options etc. I loaded up the patch so i havnt played the unpatched version and went to the tavern (the welcoming wench) in Hommlet.

I did the drinking contest and kept drinking until 4 out of the 5 the other contestants were down. The one remaining being Kobort. But the inn keeper said that my guy won and would someone drag him out here.

I got my guy to talk to the inn keeper but he then never says anything about the driking contest, and the quest is still recorded in the log book as accepted but not completed, can anyone tell me if this is a bug or i am doing something wrong.

same problem on the 1st run...

I think you have lost the drinking contest - the text is wrong - and you just stay on your feet cause you don't get the last 2 or 3 points nonelethal damage for some reasons...

...not sure - just an idea...

...on the 2nd run all go down and I won the contest (green)
