Multi-Player problem for TOSC... help please...

A buddy and I would like to run 2 characters through BG I before completing Bg II, however when either of try to join a game, once we enter our player names, pressing "done" causes the game to freeze and forces a hard-boot to get out.

I have a cable/lan connection and my buddy has a modem. We both have direct X 8 and the patch. I have played multi with other gamers before with no problems.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since I presume we'll have the same problems with BG II.
