I've seen several references to Hlomaren Stronghold as NW of Balmora, and E of Balmora. As I doubt it's both, can someone point me in the right direction, and provide a sense of how far away it might be? Thanks. :)

OKay, I have my paper map in front of me and it is effectively due west (though sightly southwards) of Balmora, moreorless right on the coast and a ways north of hla Oad.
