Oh the Shame!
Since playing Morrowind I have made every attempt to resist posting the paper map near my desk I mean, I'm 36 years old for crying out loud, and I just hate to think of the abuse my partner would subject me to Not to mention that we live in a small place so we don't have an actual office and desks must be relegated to the living room.... Hence... having people over could lead to some uncomfortable situations...
But, my map is beginning to get very tattered from the frequent folding and unfolding *sigh* Now NWN actually gave you a cloth map, and a map in NWN is not nearly as essential as in MW.. oh what to do!
So does anyone else here encounter these sorts of dilemnas?

My wife doesn't consider a badly frayed map as evidence of anything save honor. She's map-mad. Her whole family is that way. They will sit for long periods of time and discuss the history of Route 1, or when 495 formerly joined up with some place in Egypt or Siberia.
She also finds no shame in laying out maps, spreadsheets, and notepads when playing a game. Typically, she prefers turn-based strategy simulations, like Trade Empires--possibly because it, too, involves routes. But she likes RPGs such as the Might and Magic series. Morrowind has never interested her. She doesn't have much of an aesthetic sense, and I've long felt that her feeling for color is extremely muted. (Her understanding of 3D and 2D forms, however, is extraordinary.)

I love maps, similar to Fable's wife, and have a fair collection of historical maps and such. I am not, however, married to Fable.
I tend to leave my Morrowind paper map open and out on the scanner most of the time, but then my wife will come along and neatly fold it up and put it someplace: In a random desk drawer, in the stack of mail, in her pile of papers to be filed, inside one of my game boxes (I've found the MW map in the NWN box and in the BG box before), or in the plastic storage box for old computer software. She loves to 'organize' things and then not tell me about her latest 'system.'

That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

I found out very soon after playing Morrowind that the map had to go up on the wall in the office. I did put it sort of behind the door, though as it has caused more than one person to comment on my fantasy CRPG geeknicity. To them, though, I always ignore (and try and figure out a way to cast a soul trap on them. I can sell the gem to Creeper!
in comarpssion, heres a remark from a fairly young male whos partners ocasionally spend some time in his place.
i have a big MW map on my litlle condo's wall, and oftel fill it with remarks pointers and conclusions.not grasping the concept of any Comp game (consider yourelf verry lucky that yours generaly do),my partners consider it to be nothing more than a peace of twisted decor...heck,most of them cant even pronounce (sad) Morrowind...... .....sofar i found noone that could meet me on that plane..

Ha! Map? You mean, you're actually supposed to use it?? I don't use my map. It's still all neat and crisp and it's hard to read for the creases in it are so deep from lack of use. It also smells like new still. I smell my map... I just don't look at it. Though, I find it odd that I don't look at it because I, also, am obsessed with the world and maps. My friend is worse than I, though. He's also a stupid genius. (I call him stupid for I am jealous.) He could probably maneuver his way around the earth without a map or even asking anyone and he would always know where he is. So yeah... My map smells good, but it does little more for me than that.
P.S. I've often thought of hanging it on my wall, such as Locutus did, but I haven't for my lack of wall space.

Mine's still in excellent shape, too. But I have a feeling it won't be, for long. I do wish Bethesda had done what New World Computing used to on their early Might and Magic games, and provided cloth maps. Of course, when they reprinted those same games, they substituted paper. Couldn't justify the expense, I suppose, but surely Bethseda could have when Morrowind when first appeared.

Hmmm..... I have the GOTY edition and I *do* have the paper map...
You know, I can't help but wonder, as some people have alluded, if much of this boils down to being with a partner who does not game themselves... And, of course, this in itself links to a whole host of issues.
While admittedly he has not had the time over the last few years, my partner does not game, and at best he is 'tolerant' of my interest in the area. Even if he were inclined towards gaming, it would most likely be in the realm of RTS.
It's weird... there are all kinds of 'escapist' or 'mindless' pursuits that people pursue for recreation, yet RPG players, in particular, seem to suffer far more than their fair share of 'geek' accusations...
I mean, I only rarely tell people I play RPGs.... there is such a stigma attatched to them sometimes...

When I first went to the school I am currently going to, there was a "popular group" and a "nerd group" (the gamers/computer geeks) and some other groups that I don't really care about... p) Anyways... I saw the coolness of both groups, and "united" them, because I was immediately accepted into the "popular group" (what were they thinking?) and then I was like, "Hey, nerds are cool too!" and since I was a "gamer", I was accepted there also. Hehe... So I hung out with them. And now everyone loves me. 'Cause I'm just that cool. Ha! Riight... Seriously though, everyone has their good qualities and bad. The "popular group", they're nice and have hygeine, but can be snobby... The "nerd group", they're smart, but they sometimes get stuck on the same thing (such as Morrowind or Halo) for a long time... This sounds like a stereotypical comment, but it's just what happened at my little school. Stupid cliques...

Right, I knew that. Anyways, it's cool that you still play video games and the like. 'Specially RPGs. The only thing my parents like about Morrowind is the rain...
