Ralen Hlaalo's murderer

Post by beornica »

okay. So, the body of Ralen Hlaalo that we all find in Balmora... Is that actually part of a mission? Or is it just a random wierd thing, which I doubt? I've been wondering this for the longest time. Where does this originate? Do you find him first and then Nine Toes is like "hey man, it wasn't me", or does someone tell you "hey, we haven't seen Ralen around, go look for him, wouldja?"
I know I sound like such a newbie asking this, but I've been wooondering and woooondering for years now...

Sovor Trandel (at the Balmora Council Club) has the key to Nerano Manor (you'll know what I mean if you're playing House Hlaalu). He's Ralen's murderer. Taunt him, and kill him. Then take the key back to Sugar-Lips Habasi in the South Wall Corner Club. Incidentally, Sovor is also one of the people Larrius Varro at Fort Moonmoth hates, so he'll reward you, too.

Err...Fable, was it not the armorer guy in upstair of Council Club, one with the red hair and Dwemer War Axe that murdered the Ralen? And if you ask him, he claims it was Nine-Toes.

Well, I haven't done a character fit for Hlaalu and the Thieves Guild since my early run-through when MW came out; so I'm going by my old notes. They could be bad. They mention how Ralen's at the nexus of three quests--Sugar Lips' brandy, Sovor's death for the Imperials, and the key for Hlaalu. Have you checked around for a House Hlaalu FAQ? That would probably settle this. :)

SPOILER

Actually, that murder is a quest for the fighter's guild in balmora, i believe, and fire-eye gives it to you. AND, it's definitely savor trandel who's the killer, not the guy upstairs. Not that it matters though, because you'll probably kill 'em all anyway! :)

With some reservations, I don't think it's a Fighters' Guild quest, HiRoller. I never took that character through the Fighters' Guild: he was a thief first, and a mage, second. Of course, if somebody could check this...

From UESP cometh the answer.

Solve Hlaalo Murder
14 January 2003

Nileno Dorvayn at the Balmora council manor will ask to find the murderer of Ralen Hlaalo in town and kill him. You should be able to get this quest whether you belong to the House or not. If you ask around town, you'll be pointed to Nine-Toes the Argonian. Nine-Toes is in his house in town and will deny any involvement, and point you to the house Hlaalo servant. The Hlaalo manor is just across from the Hlaalu Manor, though all the doors are well locked. If you manage to get inside, you'll find the servant Uryne Nirith inside who will finger a young Dunmer with red hair, bonemold armour, and a Dwemer War Axe. With this information, you can ask around town again and you'll be pointed towards Thanelen Velas (of the Camonna Tong) in the Balmora Council Club. Kill either Velas or Nine-Toes, or both if you want to make sure.

Return to Nileno in Balmora to finish the quest.

I found the body and I talked about it to the head person af House Hlaalu. I don't know if you get a quest for it from her or not, because I had, apperently, already killed the murderer, because he's one of the guys you have to kill for another quest. And the murdurer is the armorer, guys. The person who has the key for Nerano Manor, I think they're for a different quest. And anyways, Ralen Hlaalu is in the Hlaalu Manor, not the Nerano Manor. So why would Sovor Trandel need a key for the Nerano Manor if he was going to go into the Hlaalu Manor? So I say it's Thanelan Velas, not Sovor Trandel
I wanted to change my sig, but I can't think of anything to change it to :(

SPOILER

Like it ain't already been spoiled in this thread.

And you're right. The guy upstairs is Hlaalo's killer, one of the guys downstairs is the guy with the Nerano manor key; those two and at least two others downstairs are also they guys the Imperial at the fort outside Balmora want to go away. You can take the guy upstairs without the guys downstairs overhearing and joining the fight.

What I wanna know is if there is a quest to go into Nerano manor? I've been playing for a couple months and it's never come up (other than getting the key to the place). I understand it's a nice house to take over as your base of operations (I currently live in Hlaalo's place, and haved to step over his remains every morning).
So I have travelled throughout the land and was a pilgrim all my life, alone and a stranger feeling alien. Then Thou hast made grow in my Thine Art under the breath of the terrible storm in me.

my goodness! Such a dispute over such a little thing! Yeah, I knew Thanelen Velas was the killer, I just wanted to know where the mission started. I guess it just starts when you discover Ralen's body, though, right? Ah well. I got my thousand drakes for killing him, plus my ring of surroundings, so I'm happy. :)

That's how it started for me anyway. I'd read somewhere the Hlaalo House was a great place for your character to set up his headquarters, and I was desparate for a place to store all my reagents. So basically, I got the quest from his maid

After I started asking around, though, the head of Hlaalu House in Balmora told me she'd be interested in the results of the investigation, and to come back to her for a reward when I finished the job. That makes me think it might be a Hlaalu House mission.

In my first abortive pass at the game, I think there was also chatter on the street (under, like "latest rumors" when talking to some of the people in Balmora) about Rolen's murder before I found the body, so maybe it's not a House quest, but one that only emerges if curiousity or larceny drive you into Hlaalo Manor for a look around.

Y'know, if we weren't so lazy, one of us could go into a walkthrough and see if Rolen's murder is listed under any of the house or guild quests....

Just a minute...

AH, ferget it! I swear I surfed through some walkthrough with all the house quests detailed, but I can't find it now.
